The La Area Head and Executive Council Member of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Dieudonné Komla Nuekpe, has emphasised that Christmas is far more than the celebration of a baby in a manger; it is the proclamation of God’s redemptive intervention in human history. He made this assertion during his visit to the Alajo District Christmas Convention held on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the Alajo Central Park.
Speaking on the theme, “Jesus Is Born! That I May Transform My Society Through the Gospel and the Power of the Holy Spirit,” drawn from Luke 2:1–14, Isaiah 9:6, and Isaiah 11:1–2, Apostle Dr Nuekpe underscored the historical credibility of Christ’s birth. He explained that Luke’s Gospel situates the nativity within a verifiable political and historical context, referencing the reign of Caesar Augustus and the census of the Roman Empire. This, he noted, affirms that the birth of Jesus was not mythical but a real and divinely orchestrated event.
He further observed that although Christ’s birth was marked by humility and apparent hardship, it carried profound divine purpose. Jesus was born in a manger because there was no room at the inn, raised by parents of modest means, and brought up in Nazareth – a town often despised. Despite Joseph and Mary’s lineage from King David, honour and privilege eluded them. Apostle Dr Nuekpe explained that God intentionally chose humility as the pathway to reveal His glory and accomplish His redemptive plan.
Touching on the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, he noted that their discomfort and inconvenience were instrumental in fulfilling prophecy, as foretold in Micah 5:2. He stressed that human challenges often serve as vessels for divine purpose. “Many times, we fail to recognise God’s gift because it comes in unexpected forms,” he said, urging believers to live peaceably with others, mindful that they may unknowingly be connected to their own blessings.
Describing Jesus as the Transformer, Apostle Dr Nuekpe highlighted Christ’s power to change lives and societies, citing biblical figures such as Zacchaeus, the Samaritan woman, Mary Magdalene, and the Apostle Paul, as well as cities transformed by the Gospel. He added that as the Prince of Peace, Jesus calls His followers to be peacemakers in a troubled world, empowered by the Holy Spirit with wisdom, strength, and peace.
He concluded by calling on all present to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, live for Him, and carry His peace into their communities, affirming that Christ’s birth is true, His power transforms, and His peace restores.
Present at the convention were the Alajo District Minister, Pastor Godwin Addo, and his wife, Mrs Esther Ako Addo; Mrs Juanita Nuekpe (wife of the La Area Head); and the President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour.
