COP Child Wins Jerusalem Drawing Contest

Nine-year-old Pethuel Sompa Yeboah, a Sunday School child of Alajo English Assembly in La Area of The Church of Pentecost, has won a national drawing competition organised by the Embassy of Israel in Ghana.

The competition dubbed “Jerusalem of Ghana-Children Drawing Jerusalem” was initiated by the Israeli Embassy in collaboration with the Israel-Ghana Friendship Association to mark Jerusalem Day 2021.

The Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Mrs. Shani Rapaport Estiony, on September 20, 2021, was at the Head Office of the church, La – Accra to present the ultimate prize to Miss Pethuel Sompa Yeboah for winning the competition.

The Ambassador and her team were received by the General Secretary of the church, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi. With him was the Greater Accra Regional Co-Ordinator of the church, Prophet David Kankam Beditor, who doubles as the Patron of the Children’s Ministry; the La Area Head, Apostle John Osei Amaniampong, and the Children’s Director, Pastor Prof. William Otoo Ellis, among others.

H. E. Shani Rapaport Estiony congratulated Miss Pethuel on winning the award and promised to use her drawing for the logo of the embassy and other stuffs. She also thanked The Church of Pentecost for the support and prayed for the peace of the nation. Her Excellency made a presentation to the church for the partnership.

The General Secretary, Apostle Kumi-Larbi, on behalf of the Chairman of the church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, commended the Embassy of Israel for selecting Christian organisations to participate in the contest. He thanked the Embassy for the collaboration with The Church of Pentecost.

On his part, the Director of the Children’s Ministry, Pastor Prof. William Otoo Ellis, said that the Ministry received an invitation from the Israeli Embassy through the Chairman of the church to participate in the drawing competition on May 26, 2021.

According to him, the competition was opened to 29 reputable churches in Ghana, including The Church of Pentecost.

He said the motive was “to give the children the opportunity to study, read and celebrate the glory of Jerusalem, the eternal capital of Israel.”

Pastor Prof. Otoo Ellis indicated that the Ministry communicated the guidelines on the competition to all 73 Areas of the church across the country and received various drawings on June 14, 2021.

He said a team was set up to screen all the drawings received and the best 27 were selected and packaged for the Embassy.

“On August 20, 2021, we received official communication from the Embassy, informing us that the top 30 drawings have been picked and being put together into a digital book to be sent to participating churches,” he said.

He added: “On August 31, 2021, we received official information that the winning drawing was from The Church of Pentecost, and the drawing belonged to Pethuel Sompa Yeboah.”
