The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has said that the 5-year strategic vision of the church primarily focuses on equipping the members and releasing them into society as agents of transformation for ministry outside church auditoriums.
According to him, “in the context of Vision 2023, what we do in the church will not be considered as a ministry, rather what we do outside the church auditorium. Each one of us must, therefore, look for opportunities for ministry at home, at the workplace, in the community, and wherever we may be.”
He further explained that “the work we do in the church during meetings or services will be our contribution to equipping members with the required resources for ministry, however, the actual ministry work is what each member of the church does outside the church auditorium; and this ministry must begin at the home, because the family is the basic unit of every society.”
Apostle Eric Nyamekye said this on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, when he met with ministers and officers of the Agona Swedru Area as part of his weeklong visit to the Central Region.
Touching on Vision 2023, the Chairman said that the declining rate of moral decadence in the society does not reflect a country which has over two-thirds of its population claiming to be Christians. This, he attributed this to the fact that many Christians fail to take righteousness of God beyond the walls of church auditoriums.
He said that the proliferation of churches in the country has done little to change the fortunes of the country for the better, thus validating Proverbs 14:34 that “righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”
Apostle Eric Nyamekye said that Vision 2023, which has as its theme: “Possessing the Nations: Equipping the Church to Transform Every Sphere of Society with Values and Principles of the Kingdom of God,” would, therefore, seek to bridge this gap.
According to the Chairman, the vision to “Possess the Nations” is achievable due to the great numerical strength of the church and its rise to national and international prominence. “Today, it is impossible to talk about Christian organisations or churches in Ghana without mentioning The Church of Pentecost. God has so blessed the church and made us leaders among the churches in Ghana. With these strengths, among others, we can possess the nations.”
He noted that the church has adopted a three-prong strategic approach to realise Vision 2023, the first of which, is to equip church members and deploy them into society as agents of transformation. He, therefore, urged ministers and church leaders to make the church an equipping centre where members come to be equipped and empowered for the work of ministry in the society.
He also advised church leaders to take pains to ground members through intentional discipleship and release them into society as agents of transformation to possess their various spheres.
On “Transforming society”, which is the second strategic approach, the Chairman said that, in addition to deploying members as agents for transformation, the church would also partner with the government to undertake some social interventions. These social interventions, he said, includes the construction of at least 30 boreholes annually, Community Health Posts (CHP) compounds, Police posts, and prison facilities aimed at decongesting prison facilities in Ghana.
“The third strategic approach is to realign and strengthen existing institutions and structures to propel the transformation agenda. As a result new committees such as Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) Ministry have been introduced whilst Home and Urban Missions, formerly Northern Outreach Mission (NOM), has been expanded to be able to meet the targeted objective of Vision 2023. The Chaplaincy and Counselling Unit have been strengthened whilst the Pentecost University College (PUC) and the Pentecost Theological Seminary (PTS) have also been integrated,” he said.
