Sin Is Devastatingly Evil – Apostle Dr Jimmy Markin Cautions

The outgoing Evangelism Ministry Director of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Amos Jimmy Markin, has called on all unbelievers who have been caught up in the webs of sin to turn from their sins and be reconciled with God because sin is devastatingly evil.

He made the clarion call Tuesday night (August 20, 2024), at the Black Star (Independence) Square during the first day of the Greater Accra Unleashed Crusade.

Speaking on the topic, ‘Be Reconciled To Him,’ which is the theme for the crusade, Apostle Dr Jimmy Markin explained that God created the earth and all that is in it for a purpose and reason. He indicated that God created man for His own pleasure – that man will love, serve and rejoice in Him, all the days of their lives.

However, due to the sins of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, the relationship between God and humanity was broken, causing a separation.

Apostle Dr Jimmy Markin noted that the effect of sin is that it estranges the relationship between man and God.

He bemoaned that the biggest challenge of the world presently is that people are seeking for everything everywhere but not God. This, he said, is causing discomfort, torment and wars in the world.

‘However, the good news is that God is ringing out, seeking to reconcile with mankind,’ he said.

He added that God has demonstrated His willingness to forgive and reconcile with man by sacrificing His only begotten Son for the sins of the world that all who believe in Him will be saved.

Apostle Dr Amos Jimmy Markin indicated that reconciliation with God can be achieved through turning away from sinful ways and accepting Jesus as one’s Lord and personal Saviour by confessing that He is the Son of God and the only source of salvation.

The Greater Accra Unleashed Crusade commenced on Tuesday with thousands in attendance and many giving their souls to Christ.

The Truth About Lies web

The Truth About Lies

“Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices.” (Colossians 3:9). As a follow-up to my write-up on “The Lie about Truth ,” I have attempted to examine the flip side of it titled, “The Truth about Lies.” To lie is to speak falsely with the intent to deceive. While some posit that all lies are lies, others do not share the same opinion. The latter group argues that the use of wisdom in the management of particular situations to meet corporate goals cannot be classified as lies. Some lie for fear of people or the unknown, while others lie their way out to get what they want. Those who usually lie get some temporal relief from the anticipated difficulty or trouble. In the medium to long term, however, lies have always betrayed their perpetrators and brought irredeemable disgrace to them. God detests lies and those who bear false witness against others. (Exodus 20:16; Proverbs 6:16-19).

Humans equally get disappointed and lose trust in someone once they find out they lied. The devil is the only one who likes and lives on lies. About the devil, Jesus said, “He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44). The origin of lies is, therefore, the devil which was transmitted to humankind through the fall in the Garden of Eden. No race, color, tribe, or ethnic group can be said to be expert or immune to lying, although cultural values and environmental factors may expose some than others. Lies are also not passed on genetically to others. It is in the seed of sin and, therefore, makes all humans predispose to it.

Sometimes, people confide in others and do not expect them to divulge certain information without their prior approval. Does one’s determination to keep such confidence amount to lying? Some situations warrant some actions or responses to prevent bloodshed or save a pending catastrophe. Will that also make people who find themselves in such godly missions liars? What then constitutes a lie in the perspective of God’s word? Are some lies smaller or whiter than others? Can lies be concealed forever? These and other related questions are what this write-up seeks to discuss. The objective is to unearth the deceptive nature and the hidden dangers associated with the patronage of lies as marketed by the devil.

A typical lie told out of fear is what Abraham did when he referred to Sarah as his sister instead of a wife. In Gerar, in the region of Negev, Abraham told the people of the Land that Sarah was his sister and not his wife. Although Abraham was not too wrong to call Sarah his sister due to their distant relationship, the motive of the response made it lie. Seventy-five years later, in the same town, Isaac, his son, also lied to the King that Rebekah was his sister and not his wife. Both nearly lost their wives to the King and his town folks but for God’s swift intervention. Covenant children or believers must always speak the truth because both God and the devil have a particular interest in our issues. (Genesis 20:1-7; 26:7-11).

Jacob’s sons also lied to their father about Joseph after they sold him to Egypt, but they could not cover it forever. Thirteen (13) years later, the truth bounced back with a certain amount of force to their utter shame and humiliation. Not all lies, however, survive for that long. When David and Joab masterminded the murder of Uriah, the Hittite, the truth came out a few weeks afterward at God’s instance through Nathan. Similarly, the lie Jacob and Rebekah connived and told Isaac could not even last for 24 hours. Therefore, humans do not have in their custody any implement to conceal lies. It will be only a matter of time before it is uncovered.

It was needless for Jacob to rob Esau of his blessings through the lie they told Isaac because Esau had already sold his birthright to him. Indeed, God doesn’t need a carnal hand to fulfill His divine purposes. There seems to be a force that motivates people to lie even if they feel reluctant to do so at times. Jacob initially reclined when his mother brought out the plan to rob Esau of his blessings. He told Rebekah in verse 12, “What if my father touches me? I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down a curse on myself rather than a blessing.” The force behind lies, however, was allowed to prevail over Jacob, and he went ahead to lie to his father. Thankfully, the power of Truth (i.e., God) is greater than the force behind lies, which is the devil.

Jacob had to run into exile for twenty (20) years after it came out that he lied and robbed Esau of his blessings. While in exile, Jacob was equally deceived not less than ten times by Laban. Even in his old age, he wasn’t spared the agony of patronizing lies at other people’s expense. His sons designed and well-choreographed a lie to him that a wild animal had devoured Joseph, his beloved son. Therefore, the temporal relief or “breakthrough” a lie brings is not worth it since the price when the truth is unveiled is too expensive to bear. Amnon paid with his life when he feigned sickness and slept with Tamar. Those lies, usually termed “white lies” or small lies, equally carry the same measure of risk, which casts a lasting dent in people’s trust levels and integrity. Abraham and Isaac referring to their wives as their sisters for fear of losing them nearly cost them their marriages instead. And can you imagine telling someone you have traveled out of town during a phone conversation only to bump into the person in traffic just after dropping the line? How on earth would such a person trust you again? There is, therefore, nothing small or white about peddling falsehood.

Another truth about lies is the amount of lies needed to cover a lie told when its expiry is approaching. So, in the Jacob, Esau saga, the former had to tell three (3) separate lies to cover up the first one. (Genesis 27:13-27). Isn’t it astonishing that even when people are lying, they are still able to swear Heaven and Earth to the extent of garnishing it with the name of the Lord? Isaac initially suspected some foul play due to the record time with which his food was served to him. Jacob, however, responded, “The LORD your God gave me success” (verse 20). Meanwhile, God was nowhere to be found in that lying production line. It is, therefore, not surprising to see people greeting, Praise the Lord, and others shouting Hallelujah when there’s nothing Hallelujah about what they are saying.

However, some may give responses to questions that may appear as a lie per the fact but are best described as a display of godly wisdom. In Joshua chapters one and two, Joshua sanctioned a security operation to be undertaken by two of his operatives before invading Jericho. A prostitute by the name of Rahab hid them in the roof space of her apartment and insisted she did not know their whereabouts when she was interrogated. Ordinarily, it appeared a lie she had told those the King of Jericho sent to her, but she instead kept the confidence of the deal the spies struck with her. Besides, Rahab appeared to have fallen for the God of Israel and the stories she had heard about the nation Israel. She, therefore, saw that as an opportunity to cast her destiny vote for Him rather than to hold that unquestioning loyalty to the national security apparatus of Jericho. She told the spies in her room, “We have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear, and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.” (Joshua 2:10-11).

It would be a lie to think that betraying the two spies was the truth and the way to go. In my opinion, Rahab did not lie for refusing to disclose the whereabouts of the spies who took refuge in the roof space in her room. Although some prefer to call that a white lie, I rather like to call it a God-fearing gesture worthy of emulation. The same applies to the two Hebrew midwives who feared God rather than men, so they managed the situation they found themselves in by the inspiration they got from God. Pharaoh, the King of Egypt, decreed that all male borns of the Israelis were to be killed at birth, but these two ladies disobeyed that order and allowed them to live. When they were interrogated, they told the King, “The midwives answered Pharaoh, Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.” (Exodus 1:19). Meanwhile, this was not the case per the fact and, therefore, a lie per human or its literal definition.

Their motivation for allowing the Hebrew boys to live was the fear of God in their hearts. God’s endorsement of their action and response to Pharaoh can be found in the next verse. It reads, “So God was kind to the midwives, and the people increased and became even more numerous. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.” If God judged them to be liars, He wouldn’t have given them thumps up and piled blessings on their households. Lying is not relative per se, but anytime man’s orders conflict with God’s Word, the former would be the lie while the latter the truth.

In Matthew 16:20, Jesus instructed Peter and His twelve apostles not to tell anyone that He was the Messiah. What then was going to be Peter’s answer to those who came asking whether Jesus was the expected Messiah? Peter would have responded he didn’t know who the Messiah was. Was Jesus encouraging the apostles to lie? Never at all. If the epitome and embodiment of everything Truth tells you to be silent on a matter, who else can purport to judge you as a liar? Therefore, the mere keeping of confident information or some details of it from the public doesn’t make a person a liar or dishonest. Managing some information to prevent catastrophe and save situations and lives doesn’t also make a person a liar. The motive of a person’s actions in the sight of God is the most critical determinant in judging a lie. If it is to deceive others or for selfish and personal aggrandizement, then it is a lie. However, the use of wisdom in divulging information for the safety and good of general society unto God’s glory is better classified as wisdom. The litmus test for lies is the motive behind a person’s actions or responses.

It must also be categorically stated that the end of all liars is hell fire because God hates such practices (Proverbs 6:16-19). “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” (Revelations 21:8). Besides, even in this temporary life, it is difficult to point out a single benefit of telling lies apart from the superficial relief it provides its perpetrators at that very moment. Proverbs 21:6 states, “A fortune made by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and is a deadly snare.” Let’s stop patronizing the devil by staying truthful always, irrespective of the short-term consequences we may suffer. It pays to be a child of God than the devil, whom Jesus refers to as the Father of all liars. Stay blessed.

‘May Your Presence Bring Peace To The Middle East’ – New York Mayor To Pentecost Pastor

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has prayed for peace in the Middle East, calling on divine intervention as Pastor Emmanuel Asante of The Church of Pentecost embarks on missions in Israel.

The mayor said this during the farewell service for Pastor Asante and his family on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at The Church of Pentecost in Brooklyn, USA.

Mayor Adams, who boldly professed his faith in Jesus, described Christ as the Prince of Peace. He attributed his position as mayor to the grace of God and the unwavering support of the African community in New York.

Mayor Adams expressed deep admiration for the members of The Church of Pentecost, particularly praising the church’s discipline, hard work, and significant contributions to the Brooklyn community over the past two decades.

He highlighted the unity and cooperation he has received from the church and commended the impact it has had on the local community.

To honour Pastor Asante and his family, Mayor Adams presented them with a citation and extended his best wishes for their continued ministry in Israel.

The officiating minister, Apostle Frank Asirifi, led a prayer for Mayor Adams and the city of New York, asking for God’s guidance and blessings upon the mayor’s leadership.

In his sermon, Apostle Asirifi urged Christians to always be prepared for God’s call, using the story of the donkey from Luke 19: 28-38 as an illustration.

He disclosed that one’s location cannot hinder God’s plans for them. He, therefore, urged Christians to be ready and willing vessels for God’s use at all times.

Apostle Asirifi also highlighted the privileges that come with being used by God. This includes association and accessibility, while warning against the dangers of exploiting these privileges.

Drawing from his own experiences as a missionary in Guyana, he assured the Asante family that the same God who guided him would also lead them to fulfil their divine mandate in Israel, the Promised Land.

Pastor Emmanuel Asante and his family, after four years of dedicated service at the Brooklyn District, have been transferred to Israel as the national head.

The church members expressed deep gratitude to God for bringing the Asante family to them during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. They testified to Pastor Asante’s dedication, particularly in providing food to members during the lockdown and praying for the sick.

His leadership was especially impactful in revitalising the youth ministry, a legacy clearly evident during the farewell service.

The event, filled with spontaneous praise and worship, became a revival as members celebrated the tremendous work God had accomplished through Pastor Asante and his family.

Former PEMEM Director Bows Out Of Active Service

Apostle Emmanuel Ofei Ankra-Badu, the Tema Area Head and former Director of the Pentecost Men’s Ministry (PEMEM) of The Church of Pentecost, together with his wife, Mrs Rosina Ankra-Badu, were on Sunday, August 18, 2024, retired from active service of the church.

Their retirement service was held at the Safo Memorial Temple in Tema Community 5.

Speaking at the service on the topic, ‘Managing Transition; Changeover Period,’ the immediate past General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, stated that timing is important in life’s journey.

He drew attention to significant lessons from the scriptures, stating, ‘Transition is a shift from one place, while changeover is the result of transformation.’

The Ashaiman Area Head pointed to the stories of King David, Solomon, Moses, and Joshua as some cases of leadership transitions in the Bible.

Drawing lessons between leadership transitions and relay races, the former General Secretary compared the precision required in a baton changeover during the Olympics to the careful passing of responsibilities in life.

‘As a team, making an improper baton pass, false starting, or improper overtaking results in disqualification,’ he noted, adding that “in a relay race, individuals do not win; you win as a team. However, individual mistakes result in the whole team being disqualified.’

‘When you are given a duty, finish hard. But have it at the back of your mind that you have your own track to run. Finish well, and when the time is due, you will be rewarded,’ he ended.

Apostle Mireku Ends 38-Year Impressive Service In Full-Time Ministry

The Agona Swedru Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Derek Kwaning Mireku, concluded his 38 years of dedicated service in the full-time ministry of the church on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

His retirement service, held at the Area Revival Centre in Nkubem, Swedru, was officiated by the International Missions Director (IMD) of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe. The event was attended by people from all walks of life, including active and retired ministers of the church, members, traditional rulers, and politicians. Notable attendees included the immediate past Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah (Rtd.), and Apostle Dr Dieudonne Komla Nuekpe (Executive Council Member/La Area Head).

Sermon

Delivering the sermon on the topic, ‘The Ministry of the Pillar of Cloud and Fire,’ based on Exodus 13:21-22, Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe related how God protected and preserved the people of Israel during their journey from Egypt to the Promised Land, drawing parallels to present-day ministry.

He explained that God led the Israelites by a pillar of cloud during the day and by fire at night, symbolising God’s presence among His people. This dual theophany, he said, represents the manifestation of God. Further referencing Numbers 9:15-18, he noted that the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire were the same.

Apostle Bekoe indicated that like the pillars of cloud and fire which provided guidance and light, ministry should be directed towards offering direction and illumination to humanity. He added that ministry involves both encampment (staying) and embarkment (going), likening it to a military service. He stressed that ministry is about obeying God’s commands, urging believers to follow the Master in obedience, saying, ‘If you cannot follow, you cannot lead.’

He encouraged Christians to make an impact in their respective spheres by providing direction and light to those around them, as ministry encompasses all aspects of a believer’s life.

Illustrious Son Of The Church of Pentecost Retires web

“An Illustrious Son Of The Church of Pentecost” Retires

The 3000-seater E.K. Kyei auditorium overflowed with ministers, their spouses, officers, relatives, and well-wishers as they gathered to honour the outgone Tarkwa Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr. Daniel Okyere Walker, and his family. After 31 years of dedicated ministerial service, Apostle Dr. Walker gracefully ended his active service in a grand retirement ceremony.

The overwhelming turnout was a testament to the impact of a man who served in various capacities, touching countless lives both within and beyond Ghana. Over the last three decades, his ministry spanned multiple roles, including membership on the Executive Council of The Church of Pentecost and serving as a Rector and first Vice Chancellor of Pentecost University.

In a remarkable display of respect and admiration, traditional rulers of the Apemtu Traditional Council graced the occasion in their full regalia to honour the man they praised for his humility, selflessness, and unwavering service.

The service was officiated by the General Secretary of the Church, Apostle Samuel Obuobi, who lauded Apostle Dr. Walker for his extraordinary service to God through the Church. He described him as one of the finest gentlemen the Church has ever produced.

In a sermon titled “An Unworthy Servant,” based on Luke 17:10, Apostle Obuobi emphasised that the call to Christian leadership is a call to servanthood.

He noted that while many leaders lord themselves over their followers, Christian leaders are called to serve, with Jesus Christ being the ultimate example of a servant leader.

He reminded the congregation that true servanthood means serving without expecting rewards or commendation, and viewing service as a response to God’s grace and love.

He, however, assured that God, who is just, will reward everyone for their labour of love.

“As a Christian leader, you are a servant, and as a servant, all that is expected of you is to serve your Lord wholeheartedly in humility and obedience. Leave the rest to Him. For God knows what to do,” Apostle Obuobi emphasised.

Apostle Obuobi assured Apostle Dr. Daniel Okyere Walker and Mrs. Irene Odi Walker of God’s immeasurable reward for their dedicated service in His vineyard.

The couple’s journey in full-time ministry began in 1993 at Kojokrom, where they served for a year. They were then transferred to Shama (1994-1995), brought back to Kojokrom (1995-1999), and later served at Ebenezer Worship Centre, Anyaa in Accra (2000-2003).

Their other postings included Mount Olives Worship Centre, Santa Maria, Accra (2003-2005), New Fadama Worship Centre, Accra (2010-2013), Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC), Kaneshie (2013-2016), Associate Minister at PIWC, Kokomlemle (2016-2020), and Tarkwa as Area Head (2020-2024). Between 2005 and 2010, they also served in Telford, UK, as student missionaries.

Alongside his pastoral duties, Apostle Dr. Walker was a distinguished academic, teaching at Pentecost University and holding various leadership positions, eventually rising to the office of Rector.

As the first Vice-Chancellor of the University, he played a pivotal role in securing a Presidential Charter, establishing the institution as a fully-fledged university. His tireless efforts and leadership have earned him the reputation as one of the most decorated Rectors/Vice-Chancellors of the University.

Among the national awards bestowed upon him are the Most Outstanding CEO of Private Universities (2019) by the UMB Ghana Tertiary Awards, and the Best CEO of Private Universities (2019) by the Ghana Industry CEO Awards, Business Executive category.

In 2021, he was also honoured with ‘The Baron’ by the Business Executive Excellence Awards for his exceptional contributions to the business sector of the Ghanaian economy and the Church.

During his tenure as Vice-Chancellor, Apostle Dr. Walker was elected to the Executive Council, serving from 2018 to 2023 with grace. He also served as the Coordinator for the Western and Western North Coordinating Committee from 2020 to 2023.

Additionally, he has served on several boards and committees within the Church and is currently the Chairman of the National Literature Committee.

A testimony read by Apostle Dr. Dela Quampah on behalf of the General Council of the Church described him as an “illustrious son of The Church of Pentecost,” highlighting his integrity, genuine kindness, modesty, selflessness, and diligence throughout his 31-year service.

The tribute also recognised Mrs. Irene Odi Walker for her exceptional role as a supportive partner throughout their ministerial journey.

The General Secretary then presented a certificate plaque and the official retired minister’s license to Apostle Dr. Walker.

During the service, the staff and management of Pentecost University, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Apostle Professor Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua, acknowledged Apostle Walker’s contributions to the University and presented a citation to him. The Women’s Ministry, Area Presbytery, and Pastorate of the Tarkwa Area also took turns to eulogise the couple, presenting citations as well.

A notable highlight of the event was when the retired ministers present welcomed the couple into their “family,” leading them in a processional dance during the service.

The event was indeed a glorious experience, featuring powerful song ministrations and prophetic messages. The protocol team was efficient, the media team was well-organized, and the mass choir was angelic both in appearance and in ministration.

Overwhelmed with joy and surrounded by his surviving siblings, and relatives from Ghana and abroad, Apostle Daniel Walker remarked, “Today, I have seen that I am truly loved by many.”

He also magnanimously acknowledged the various individuals (both deceased and alive) who have played key roles in his life and ministry.

The Ultimate Goal Of The Church Is To Deliver The World To God – Apostle Nyamekye

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost and President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has stated that God has mandated the Church to deliver the kingdoms of the world into the marvellous light of Jesus Christ.

He revealed this on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, when speaking at ‘Maximum Impact ’24 Summit’ organised by the Powerhouse Ministries International, Accra.

Referring to John 3:1, Apostle Nyamekye indicated that the God’s greatest focus is the world. He explained the God demonstrated His extreme love for the world by giving His only begotten Son to be sacrificed for the salvation of the world.

According to him, since God’s focus is the world, the Church should also focus on redeeming and transforming the world for God.

The Chairman mentioned that all activities done in the church are not the end of Christianity but are meant to prepare the Church to step out and transform the world.

Questioning why corruption is still a major challenge facing Ghana even though there are church auditoriums scattered all over the country, he averred that it is so because the Church has not been unleashed into the world to transform it.

He revealed that God has given the Church, which encompasses everyone that has accepted Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour, the power to live a transformed life. He, however, cautioned that the power has not been given to the Church to be kept in church buildings but to go out and set free those who have been made captives by the kingdoms of the world.

The GPCC president lamented that the challenge with Christians in recent times is that they see the Church as a building and limit God’s presence there, saying, ‘It is time Christians recognise that the Church of God is limitless and without boundaries.’

Apostle Eric Nyamekye called on all believers to note that ministry does not only involve pastors and apostles but every single individual who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
