Let’s Strengthen The Local Church For Greater Impact – Apostle Nyamekye To Church Leaders

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost (CoP), Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has said that the 2023 theme was intentionally chosen to strengthen the local church as the centre for mobilising and equipping church members for maximum impact in the nations.

The Chairman said this yesterday when he threw more light on this year’s theme: “Repositioning the Local Church for Maximum Impact in the Nations,” during the opening ceremony of the ongoing Global Ministers and Wives’ Conference at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh.

Apostle Nyamekye explained that the effort to reposition local church for more impact despite the many gains made by The Church of Pentecost over the years is an indication of the Church’s thirst and hunger for excellence.

“So, let us put behind us the glories of the yesteryear and strife to attain the goal for which Christ has called us,” he stated.

The Chairman, therefore, advised the ministers to embrace the theme with passion and zeal to achieve the intended objective.

“As ministers of a church that seeks to reposition itself, we need to first reposition ourselves to be able to effectively reposition the local church. This can only be a reality when we are well-grounded and well-positioned in the very things we want our members to know and do,” he said.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye also revealed that to achieve the desired set goals under the 2023 theme, a pattern of teaching would be adopted, guided by these selected topics: “The Local Church as a Family, The Local Church Upholding the Value of Godliness, Sacrificial Giving and Tithing, the Local Church in Evangelism and Visitation in the Local Church.”

The other topics are: “Raising Family Altars to Strengthen the Local Church: Lessons from the Puritans, and Encouraging Personal Devotions and Small Group Prayer Meetings to Strengthen the Local Church.”

In addition to the selected topics, the Chairman stated that the first three months of the Bible Study sessions have been dedicated to studying the rules of conduct and core values of the Church, as a means of strengthening the local church and deepening The CoP brand.

Concluding his presentation, Apostle Nyame stated that the Church leadership intends to use the 2023 theme to make the local assemblies ready to combat every thought, argument and pretension that set itself up against the knowledge of God and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2023 Global Ministers & Wives’ Conference Begins At PCC

2023 Global Ministers & Wives’ Conference Begins At PCC

The 2023 Global Ministers and Wives’ Conference of The Church of Pentecost began on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, near Kasoa in the Central Region of Ghana.

The annual fasting, prayers, and teachings event, being attended by about 4,000 ministers and their wives in Ghana, will be joined by other ministers of the church across the globe via zoom at designated places.

This year’s conference is under the theme, “Repositioning the Local Church for Maximum Impact in the Nations” – Colossians 2:6-7; 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20.

Officially opening the conference on Wednesday morning, the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost worldwide, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, was hopeful that the Lord would make His ways known to the participants, as they diligently seek Him with all their hearts.

“May God’s unerring Spirit lead this conference, and may the church be fired with holy zeal,” the Chairman said.

Touching on the theme for the year, he said it represents an intentional effort to strengthen the local church, as the centre for mobilising the grassroots and equipping them for the ‘possessing the nations’ agenda.

According to Apostle Nyamekye, “repositioning suggests that we have not yet arrived. Let us put behind us the glories of yesteryear and strife to attain the goal for which Christ has called us. We, therefore, need a constant, consistent, critical examination and retooling of the church for maximum impact in the nations.”

He added: “As ministers of a church that seeks to reposition itself, we need to first reposition ourselves to be able to effectively reposition the local church.”

This, he said, can only be a reality when ministers of the church are well-grounded and well-positioned in the very things they want their members to know and do.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye challenged the participants to open up to the Lord and receive the various ministrations and find the best ways to pass them on to the local church to achieve the intended effect.

This year’s conference will end on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

New PCC Residential Block Named After Apostle D.Y.A. Owusu

The newly-built four-storey residential block of the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, has been named after the late Apostle David Yaw Anti Owusu, widely known as “Apostle DYA Owusu.”

The facility was formally commissioned yesterday at a short ceremony officiated by the Chairman of the Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, with assistance from the General Secretary, Apostle A.N.Y. Kumi-Larbi, the International Missions Director, Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe, and other Executive Council members of the Church.

The historic event was also witnessed by the family members of the late minister.

Explaining the rationale for the gesture, Apostle Nyamekye said the late Apostle Owusu was one of the illustrious servants of The Church of Pentecost who served God and the Church well.

He further touted some of the positions the late minister held in the Church, paramount amongst them were his (Apostle Owusu) relatively short stint as an Acting Chairman of the Church from 1987 to 1988 following the unfortunate passing of the then Chairman, Apostle Fred Safo, and also as an Executive Council Member of the Church for 19 years (1969-1988).

The gesture, according to Apostle Nyamekye, was, therefore, aimed at honouring the memory of a gallant soldier of the Cross.

The Chairman advised the ministers present to also serve the Lord and the Church faithfully so that posterity would celebrate their good works.

The leader of the Owusu family, in response, expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of the Church for the great honour done them. The family donated a front desk to the management of PCC to aid operations in the facility.

The newly-commissioned David Yaw Anti Owusu block has 153 rooms and an elevator to ensure easy movement inside the building.

The new block adds to six other residential buildings at the centre which have been named after other illustrious servants of the Church, namely, Apostle Abraham Tetteh Nartey, Apostle Stephen Henry Ankamah, Apostle James Kwaku Gyimah, Apostle George Alphonso Wood, Apostle Patrick Asiamah, Apostle Samuel Richard Asomaning and Elder John Bart Plange.

Present at the event were some active and retired ministers of the Church. Among them were Pastor Prince Odoom (PCC Manager) and Pastor James Agyin (Projects Development and Estate Manager, CoP – Headquarters), who supervised the execution of the building project.

Apostle D.Y.A. Owusu was called into the full-time ministry of The Church of Pentecost in 1950 and was stationed at Sunyani a year later. He subsequently served at Suhum, Sekondi-Takoradi, Ho, Akim Oda and Cape Coast, where he retired from active ministry in 1988.

Apostle Owusu served in various capacities in ministry as afore-indicated and also served as Chairman of the Pensions Board and General Leader for the Women’s Movement (now Women’s Ministry) from 1955 to 1988 and 1967 to 1976, respectively.

He passed on to glory on July 21, 2008 at age 86, after a protracted illness.

Develop Attitude Of Gratitude – Apostle Nyamekye Advises

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has called on the clergy, and Christians in general to develop an attitude of gratitude.

According to Apostle Nyamekye, though the year 2022 was a tough one with several challenges, God has kept them through to another fresh year.

Speaking at the opening of the Heads’ Meeting ahead of the Global Ministers and Wives Conference of The Church of Pentecost at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC) at Gomoa Fetteh on Monday, 23 January 2023, Apostle Nyamekye revealed that Christians have a divine responsibility to give thanks always to God.

“As children of God, there is always the righteous requirement to give thanks to God because that is the will of God concerning us,” he said.

Quoting from Colossians 2:6-7; Genesis 29:32, the Chairman charged believers not to allow life worries and challenges to hinder their praise and thanksgiving to God.

“Try and detoxify yourselves of any worries so that you have the heart to praise God,” he advised.

Apostle Nyamekye called on Christians to fellowship and fraternize, adding that, through that, they can let go of some life issues which will free their minds to offer praise to God.

The Heads’ Meeting is part of the activities that form part of the Global Ministers and Wives’ Conference 2023. The Heads’ Meeting is being attended by Area Heads, as well as Directors of Ministries of the church. National Heads from external branches are joining the meeting via zoom at designated places.

Don’t Take The Grace Of God For Granted – Apostle Nyamekye Tells Ghanaians

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has urged Ghanaians to thank God for his grace in sustaining the peace and security of the nation.

“Sometimes we take the grace of God for granted. Let us, therefore, thank God for what he has done for us as a nation. The issue is that we do not reflect on this grace, that is why we do not appreciate the grace of God,” he asserted.

Apostle Nyamekye said this on Tuesday, January 10, 2022, during the maiden Thanksgiving Service organised by the Ministry of Education at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

Preaching on the topic, “Thanksgiving and Wisdom,” Apostle Nyamekye noted that reflecting on the past year, the feelings may vary depending on how one measures it, saying, “No matter what happened, once you are alive today, the righteous requirement of you is to give thanks to the Lord.”

The Chairman, therefore, entreated the people of Ghana to count their blessings not their curses for no one has it all.

He stated: “We need to live in day-tight compartments. We need to have a firm assurance that our destinies are secured in God.”

Apostle Nyamekye urged Ghanaians to inculcate the habit of developing a positive attitude of thanksgiving toward the Lord in any situation that may befall them in their lives.

Using Psalm 100 as a scripture reference, he disclosed that people usually concentrate more on the losses than the gains, hence they fail to thank the Lord for his blessings.

He charged the citizenry to work hard to ensure a fruitful year and also avoid unnecessary worries about life.

“We disturb ourselves by carrying unnecessary burdens because tomorrow will take care of itself. Close the door to yesterday, shut that of tomorrow and live in today,” he said.

Touching on education, he asked Ghanaians to pray for a robust educational system that will enhance national development.

The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, led the staff and heads of agencies within the Ministry of Education to offer prayers for the nation and its leadership.

Present were the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and his deputy, Hon. Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.

Reposition Yourselves To Impact The World – Apostle Nyamekye Tells Christians

Reposition Yourselves To Impact The World – Apostle Nyamekye Tells Christians

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has charged Christians to grow up as sons of God and reposition themselves for maximum impact in their spheres of life this year.

Apostle Nyamekye stated that Christianity is a father-son relationship. He explained that once a person believes in Christ Jesus, he receives the adoption of God as a son.

According to him, the relationship between God and Christians is “a transforming relationship” which should not be reduced to “superstition and calendar.”

Apostle Nyamekye said this on Sunday, January 1, 2023, when he fellowshipped with members of the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC), Graceland at Nungua.

Preaching on the topic, “Repositioning Ourselves For Maximum Impact In Our World,” Apostle Nyamekye said that the Christian faith is anchored on two key beliefs – the beginning of Jesus’ story and the end of His story.

He noted that the belief at the beginning of Jesus’ story is the incarnation, that is God becoming incarnate in Jesus and the belief at the end of the story is His death and resurrection.

“This distinguishes Christianity from all other beliefs,” he said, adding, “Jesus is not the founder of any religion because He is the Saviour of the world. This is the gospel that purchased our freedom.”

The Chairman disclosed that success is basic for all who have believed in Jesus, saying, “Therefore, the fact that we are children of God makes success basic for all of us Christians.”

He admonished believers not to reduce Christianity to superstition but focus on their relationship with God throughout the year.

“What you need to work at is success this year. You do not need anyone to prophesy unto your life because you are children of God,” the Chairman stated.

He revealed three key things that can assist believers to achieve success for maximum impact in society.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye asked Christians to reposition their minds, hearts and hands. He, therefore, urged believers to work at growing in Christ which, according to him, engenders confidence, changes the outlook of life, ensures maturity, strength, wisdom, leaves beggarly and feeble things behind and laughs at superstition.

“My greatest concern for you this year is to represent yourselves to be on God’s side for He’s always right,” he stated.

In a brief sermon on the topic, “Importance of Names,” Apostle Nyamekye said that people have to be identified by a name and it should be guarded jealously and protected.

“A name is not just for identification, all that a person is is vested in his name. Your name will always stand in for you and you and your name are one,” Apostle Nyamekye said.

He admonished Christians to desist from slandering people’s names since it destroys their reputations.

He charged believers to carry themselves well in pursuit of attaining a great name, because a good name is better than wealth.

Elder Dr Johnson Addo was transferred to PIWC Tema as the Presiding Elder in 1999, taking over from then Elder Daniel Sackey (now a pastor). He has been the longest-ever serving presiding elder in the history of the district, having served for 11 years, spanning the administration of three different District Pastors.

Apostle Nyamekye Commends Children’s Workers

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has lauded the crucial work being executed by workers (teachers) of the Children’s Ministry of The Church of Pentecost.

“It is a fact that Children’s Workers, more often than not, are not appreciated although they play crucial roles in building and sustaining the church. But I must confess that you are doing a great job for the church, and I will urge you to continue,” he noted.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye said this on Thursday, December 15, 2022, during his interaction with Children’s Workers of the Church, who had gathered for a strategic planning meeting at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh.

The Chairman encouraged the participants not to relax or give up on this all-important work the Lord has called them to do in the church’s quest to raise godly children who will go out there to possess the nations for the Lord.

He expressed his joy and appreciation for the effort put in by leadership at all levels in ensuring the success of the just-ended Children’s Rally held across the country. “It was heartwarming seeing our young ones sending the gospel to the world. In the coming years, the children’s rally will be institutionalised to be held in the month of November,” he pledged.

The meeting, which brought together a cross-section of children’s workers drawn from all the regions of the country, was geared towards reviewing the first half of the four-year mandate of the Director of the Children’s Ministry, and to chart a new path to ensure positive growth and sustenance of the ministry.

First Cohort of Elders Training Program Graduate

First Cohort of Elders’ Training Course Graduate

Saturday, December 17, 2022, will forever be etched in the history books of The Church of Pentecost as the day when the first batch of elders of the Church passed out with certificates in Theology and Pastoral Studies having successfully completed the newly-introduced Elders Training Course at the Pentecost University (PU).

The historic event took place at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, during the university’s 14th Congregation.

In his address, the Chancellor of Pentecost University, who doubles as the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, stated that the Church’s five-year strategic vision (Vision 2023: Possessing the Nations) considers Pentecost University as an important institution; one of the vehicles through which the vision can be achieved.

He iterated that the Church also recognises the need to build a vibrant church that will be relevant to future generations, saying, “If the church is to stand the test of time, it will require the upscaling of our church leadership and members.”

He added: “As a result, it is the resolve of The Church of Pentecost to encourage the leadership of the local assemblies through sponsorship packages to enroll on the certificate programme in Theology and Pastoral Studies at Pentecost University, dubbed, the ‘Elders’ Training Program’.”

The Vice Chancellor of Pentecost University, Apostle Professor Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua, said that majority of the 2,832 graduating students at the event were Elders of the church who were sponsored by The Church of Pentecost for the newly-introduced training program.

He, however, explained that although a total of 8,699 Elders have successfully passed out, the University took the decision to hold separate graduation ceremonies at the regional levels for them. This, among other reasons, was to prevent travelling inconveniences for elders in other regions, he added.

Some ministers’ wives of The Church of Pentecost, who had also successfully completed a Church-sponsored course at the university, obtained certificates in Christian Ministry at the event.

Apostle Dr. Christian Tsekpoe, the Head of Ministerial Formation and Training at the Pentecost School of Theology and Missions, urged the Church leaders, particularly the elders, to serve as ambassadors of Pentecost University by recommending the university to church members and other acquaintances.
