The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has called on church leaders to deepen their commitment to prayer and spiritual renewal through personal devotion.
Addressing presiding elders and elders in Kumasi at the Dunamis English Assembly auditorium in Bantama, on Friday, October 4, 2024, Chairman Nyamekye emphasised the importance of withdrawing from the hustle and bustle of ministry to seek divine strength, drawing inspiration from Luke 5:15-16, where Jesus often retreated to pray.
According to him, even though Jesus Christ performed several miracles and wonders, He never gloried in that. Rather, He prioritised withdrawing from the masses to pray for longer hours to renew His strength.
The Chairman noted that spiritual battles require more than mere determination, but rather a robust connection with God.
‘Without God’s strength, the challenges of this world will come as a trap and weigh you down,’ he cautioned.
He highlighted the dangers of short devotions, which he described as detrimental to deep piety and spiritual rigour. He stated that many biblical figures engaged in lengthy private prayers before making public declarations.
‘Devotion cannot be confined to time limits,’ he asserted, urging ministers to prioritise longer periods of prayer to foster a deeper relationship with God and enhance their ministry effectiveness.
Apostle Nyamekye cautioned that a lack of closeness with Jesus could lead to ‘lean souls and ineffective ministry.’
He encouraged church leaders to be vigilant and proactive in seeking strength from God, stressing that short devotions often contribute to spiritual backsliding within congregations.
