The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Right Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has announced that the ‘Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill,’ which was passed by Parliament and is awaiting Presidential assent, will become operational by God’s grace.

He made this declaration on Thursday night, August 22, 2024, at Black Star Square in Accra during the Greater Accra Unleashed Crusade organised by The Church of Pentecost.

Mounting the podium to share his words of solidarity, the leader of Ghana’s legislative body thanked the leadership of The Church of Pentecost for their impactful contributions to national development and the guidance provided to Parliament during the consideration of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill.

He emphasised the importance of family in nation-building, stating, ‘You cannot build a nation without families.’

The Speaker stressed that it is incumbent on leaders to establish proper values when the family system and values are breaking down. According to him, this is why Members of Parliament, with his support, passed the anti-gay bill. He also mentioned that there is an obligation on the other arms of government to show leadership for the operationalisation of this crucial bill.

Right Hon. Bagbin, who is publicly known for his Christian principles, declared that despite the hurdles the bill is facing, it will become operational, saying, ‘When God says yes, nobody can say no. It will happen.’
