Christians have been admonished to make every effort to jealously guard the glory of God in their life since the glory of God is the soul of the church.
The Personal Assistant to the International Missions Director (IMD) of The Church of Pentecost, Pastor Gideon Boadu Yirenkyi, said this in an exhortation on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at the 23rd Annual Head Office Management and Staff Retreat of The Church of Pentecost underway at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh.
Quoting from the 2020 theme text of the church, Ephesians 3:21; 5:27, Pastor Yirenkyi said God’s intent is not to only reveal his glory to his people but to unbelievers. “God wants to be glorified in every generation whether in the church or outside the church. Christians are called to be the custodians of the glory of God,” he said.
He indicated that the glory of God can be lost if not well guarded, stressing that the church would become an ordinary entity or organisation when the glory of God is pushed out.
According to him, the glory of God expresses all the attributes of God (Exodus 33:18-19). He revealed that the glory stands for God’s mercy, kindness, treasure, presence and many more, adding that Christians are the vessels of God’s glory – 2 Corinthians 4:7.
“Our salvation as Christians is meaningless unless others are able to see clearly that our deeds and lifestyle reflect the glory of God,” he pointed out.
To maintain the glory of God, Pastor Yirenkyi quoted Acts 2:42 and challenged believers to devote themselves to sound teachings, breaking of bread, prayer, and fellowship.
Touching on physical assets that the people of God are to take care of, he stated that God entrusted the Garden of Eden to the care of Adam to work and keep it. However, along the line, Adam could not be a good custodian and lost his position. Likewise, Eli, the High Priest, who also lost the Ark of Covenant to the enemies of Israel and subsequently died because he could not be a good custodian (1 Samuel 4:13-18).
“Though we may be working, if we don’t take care, we may lose the essence for which we have been called to work,” he said.
He added that Christians are the spiritual custodians of the things of God such as the church and their own bodies (1 Corinthians 3:9). “Every child of God should see himself/herself as the building of God which he/she has to take care of. We are the custodians of God’s church, which is our body. If we are all God’s property and building, it means that whether we are ministers, officers and members we have a responsibility to take care of the body/church,” he stressed.
