The Greater Accra Unleashed Crusade witnessed a powerful testimony on Friday night, leaving the crowd in awe of God’s redemptive power. The immediate past General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, shared the incredible story of his family’s journey from darkness to light with deep emotion.
Born into a family plagued by curses and spiritual attacks, Alexander described a childhood filled with fear, sickness, and hopelessness. His father, once a hardworking man, fell into alcoholism and despair, leading the family down a path of increasing turmoil. Spiritualists and fetish priests had predicted that the Kumi family would never prosper.
But everything changed when Alexander encountered Jesus Christ in 1978. ‘Jesus, the game changer, came into my life and turned our destiny around,’ he said emotionally. After a divine encounter that led to his conversion at a Scripture Union (SU) meeting, Alexander discarded all the occult items his family had relied on for protection. From that moment, the spiritual attacks ceased, and his life began to flourish.
One by one, members of the Kumi family experienced their own encounters with Christ. His sister Mary, once bound by evil spiritual forces, was freed after she accepted Jesus. Today, she is a retired nurse and a deaconess, blessed with a family of her own.
His brother Seth, who was told by prophets that he would go blind if he attended school, defied the curse and is now a retired professional, serving as an Area Deacon in The Church of Pentecost.
Perhaps the most astonishing transformation was that of his younger sister Christie, who was prophesied to die if she pursued education. Despite these dire warnings, she overcame the odds and is now a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, holding multiple degrees, including a PhD and academic honours.
Alexander himself, now an engineer, consultant, and minister of the gospel, once battled intense spiritual warfare but now stands as a testament to God’s grace.
In his testimony, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi urged those still bound by spiritual darkness to turn to Jesus, the only one who can truly save and deliver, saying, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
The Kumi family’s story is a powerful reminder that no situation is beyond God’s reach. Their transformation from a family cursed and oppressed to one flourishing in Christ is a testimony to the life-changing power of the gospel.
