The Kintampo Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Gideon Obeng-Darko Debrah, has advised all and sundry to honour and treasure women, especially mothers.
Apostle Debrah said this during a special Mother’s Day sermon delivery on Adars FM, a private radio station in Kintampo on Sunday, May 10, 2020.
Using Exodus 20:12; 2 Timothy 1:5 as his main Bible texts, he stated: “Motherhood is not only biological, for there are many women out there who have never given birth but have contributed greatly in the upbringing of some great personalities and such women must be celebrated in the society.”
He mentioned that women are so precious that God saw that it was not good for a man to stay alone, hence the creation of a woman as a suitable helper in the Garden of Eden. He cautioned men who do not regard women and treat them harshly by assaulting them to desist from such acts since they amount to disrespect.
He added that some of the negative treatments against women in the society are seen in the inscriptions on vehicles such us, “Fear Women,” “Woman no Good,” “Woman is Bad,” among others. He, therefore, advised the public on the need to put an end to such degrading acts.
He explained that women play very key and significant roles in the lives of husbands and families and must not be overlooked. The roles include serving as the financial pillars of the family, providers of food for the family, caressing members of the family during sickness, and protecting and advising husbands and other family members against unforeseen dangers.
Apostle Debrah admonished men to cultivate the habit of constantly appraising their wives for their effort in the upkeep of the home. He also advised mothers to discipline their children when they go wrong and avoid reserving the punishment of their children to their husbands. This, he said, usually creates a bad impression in the minds of children about their fathers.
Outlining some women in the Bible who made great impacts in the lives of great men, he mentioned Jochebed, the mother of Moses, who contributed to Moses’ greatness when she devised an innovative means to save his life when he was a baby from being killed by Pharoah. Also, the grandmother and mother of Timothy, Lois and Eunice respectively, helped in raising their son to be a great man.
He concluded by advising all women to raise their wards in the spirit of love. He advised all to call their mothers and express some appreciation to them in words of affirmation and gifts.
