The Women’s Ministry of the Bolgatanga Central Assembly of The Church of Pentecost has presented assorted items to patients at the maternity unit of the Upper East Regional hospital.
The gesture was part of their activities to commemorate this year’s Mother’s Day Celebration.
The items valued at about GH¢1,500 included; toiletries, baby diapers, washing powder, and two glucometre machines.
Deaconess Rebecca Nkansah Kyeremanteng, the Leader of the Women’s Ministry, at a brief ceremony at the maternity ward to present the items, said the gesture was part of the church’s social responsibility.
She said the Ministry would sustain the initiative annually to reach out to patients in various health facilities within the Municipality.
Mrs Elizabeth Ogoe Annan, the Acting Maternity Ward In-charge of the Regional hospital who received the items on behalf of management and patients, expressed gratitude to the Church for the generosity, and said the gift would benefit patients and put smiles on their faces.
She appealed to the Church to continue to support the facility.
Checks by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sideline of the donation showed that three successful live deliveries were conducted out of 32 expectant mothers at the unit on Mother’s Day.
The GNA further learnt that in spite of the lack of space at the unit, which compelled staff to admit expectant mothers on corridors of the ward and walk ways, the unit had challenges with water supply which affected service delivery.
