Some families leave an impression not because of the places they have lived or the titles they have held, but because of the way they have lived their lives. Their journey is marked by service, sacrifice, faith, commitment, and the many lives they have touched along the way.
The Lotsu family is one such family.
Their story is not simply about moving from one place to another or taking on different responsibilities. It is a story of answering God’s call, serving others wholeheartedly, and making a meaningful difference wherever they have been.
Pastor Cornelius Edem Lotsu and his wife, Mrs Clare Lotsu, answered the call to full-time ministry with The Church of Pentecost in 2009. But long before that call, Pastor Lotsu had served his country professionally with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) from 2001 to 2008.
In 2009, the next chapter began.
His ministry journey started at Kpetoe in the Ho Area of the Volta Region. Two years later, in 2011, another chapter opened when Pastor Lotsu and his family were transferred to the Ghana Armed Forces Chaplaincy, on secondment.
In 2013, he served internationally as the Ghana Aviation’s 13th Contingent Chaplain with the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI – GHAV 13).
From 2015 to 2016, Pastor Lotsu again served as the Ghana Aviation’s 2nd Contingent Chaplain with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA GHAV 2).
His ministry journey also took him to the 3 Infantry Battalion (3BN) in Sunyani, where he served from 2011 to 2019. During his tenure, Pastor Lotsu went beyond ministering to the spiritual needs of military personnel and their families. He was privileged to lead efforts and mobilise resources for the renovation of the unit’s chapel, leaving a lasting impact on the worship life of the military community.
In 2019, the Lotsu family was transferred to the 4 Infantry Battalion (4BN) in Kumasi, where they served faithfully for four years, from 2019 to 2023. In 2023, Pastor Lotsu was posted to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra as a chaplain and also served as the District Minister of the Burma Camp Worship Centre. Drawing on his extensive expertise in professional counselling, he became a trusted confidant and source of comfort to both patients and staff, ministering not only to their spiritual needs but also to their emotional and psychological well-being.
For 15 years within the GAF Chaplaincy, Pastor Lotsu has had the opportunity to serve in different military formations and international peacekeeping environments thereby officiating numerous military ceremonies.
Pastor Lotsu served as Secretary to the Unit Chaplaincy while ministering to the spiritual and emotional well-being of personnel and their families.
And what strikes me about such a journey is that ministry is not always about standing behind a pulpit.
Sometimes, ministry is listening to a troubled soldier, comforting a family, encouraging someone in difficult circumstances, rebuilding a place of worship or simply being there when someone needs a word of hope. That has been part of Pastor Lotsu’s journey.
BUT THERE IS ANOTHER STORY WITHIN THIS STORY…
Behind every man whose journey of service takes him from one assignment to another is often a woman whose own journey is equally remarkable. Mrs Clare Lotsu — Mama Clare — is a woman with a calling of her own.
Since 2000, she has served as a professional teacher, specialising in Early Childhood Education.
Her passion for helping children learn led her into the world of phonics. In 2015, she obtained professional certification in Phonics and has since become a Trainer of Trainers in Jolly Phonics.
But she did not keep that knowledge to herself.
Mama Clare has taken her passion for early childhood literacy beyond the classroom and onto television, where she teaches phonics on GTV, Ghana’s State Broadcaster, through a weekly programme aired on Saturdays.
I find the combination beautiful — one serving through ministry and the other through education, both touching lives in different but equally important ways.
AND THEN COME THE THREE BEAUTIFUL DAMSELS…
The Lotsus are blessed with three daughters: Christable Delali Lotsu, Cornelia Kekeli Lotsu, and Claribel Makafui Lotsu.
Three daughters who have grown within a home where faith, education, discipline, service and love are part of the family story.
After three years at Burma Camp, the Lotsu family has once again packed their bags and moved on — this time to Tema Community 4, to continue their ministry journey.
ANOTHER LOCATION. ANOTHER ASSIGNMENT. ANOTHER CHAPTER.
But perhaps that is what a life of service is about — going where you are needed, serving faithfully, touching lives and leaving every place a little better than you found it.
As the Lotsu family begins this new chapter in Tema, I wish them God’s abundant grace, protection, wisdom and favour.
May Pastor Lotsu continue to be a source of strength and spiritual guidance to all those entrusted to his care.
May Mama Clare continue to inspire and shape young minds.
And may Christable, Cornelia and Claribel continue to grow into the beautiful women they are destined to become.
The Lotsu story continues…And I have no doubt that wherever this family goes, their footprints of faith, service and love will remain.
