May future generations never look back at us and say, “They had every opportunity to make Jesus known, but they were too busy making themselves known.”
INTRODUCTION
The early disciples did not have the advantage of instant communication, yet the message of Jesus continued to spread. In a generation where journeys could take days, weeks or even months, ordinary men and women carried the name of Jesus from place to place. They had a message worth carrying, and that message was Jesus.
And that raises an important question for us: What would the disciples have done if they had our communication tools?
We live in a generation where a single message can cross borders within seconds.
Jesus commanded: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” — Mark 16:15
Jesus must be made known because people need the hope, salvation, love and transformation that are found in Him.
There is a beautiful example in Mark 5. Jesus encountered a man whose life had been completely overtaken by evil spirits. He lived among the tombs, isolated and tormented. But one encounter with Jesus changed his story.
After Jesus delivered him, the man wanted to follow Him. Instead, Jesus told him: “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you.” — Mark 5:19
Verse 20 tells us that the man went throughout the Decapolis, telling people what Jesus had done for him. He had experienced Jesus, so he made Jesus known.
We, too, have experienced His grace and mercy. We have experienced answered prayers, His forgiveness, provision, comfort and love. Sometimes we think that making Jesus known requires a pulpit, a microphone or a position in the church. It does not.
We Can Make Him Known With Our Lives
Jesus said: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
Live in such a way that when people encounter your character, kindness, integrity, forgiveness and love, something about your life points them towards Christ.
Make Him Known With Your Voice
Tell someone what Jesus has done for you. Share the Gospel. Encourage someone with Scripture. Speak about your faith courageously.
You do not need to know everything about the Bible before you can tell someone about Jesus. Tell them what Jesus has done in your life.
The man in Mark 5 did not attend Bible school before sharing his testimony. He simply had a story: “I met Jesus, and He changed me.”
When we have a business, we promote it.
When we achieve something, we post it.
When we discover something exciting, we share it.
When we love a product, song, restaurant or person, we tell others about it.
So, what about Jesus?
Your WhatsApp status can make Him known.
Your Instagram can make Him known.
Your TikTok, Facebook, X, LinkedIn or whatever platform you occupy can become another place where someone encounters the Gospel through you.
This does not mean that every post must become a sermon. It means we should stop treating our digital presence as though Jesus has no place in it.
If He is part of our lives, He should not be completely absent from the spaces where we express ourselves.
Paul wrote: “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” — 2 Corinthians 5:20
An ambassador represents someone greater than themselves. That is who we are.
So, use what you have.
Use your voice.
Use your testimony.
Use your gifts.
Use your profession.
Use your influence.
Use your social media platforms.
Use your everyday conversations.
And, most importantly, use your life.
The disciples carried the Gospel across nations with far fewer tools than we have today. We carry phones capable of reaching the world from the palms of our hands.
May future generations never look back at us and say: “They had every opportunity to make Jesus known, but they were too busy making themselves known.”
The goal is simple: MAKE JESUS KNOWN.
