The La Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle John Osei Amaniampong, has stated that service is one of the core values of the Christian faith.

According to him, the moment one is converted into the body of Christ, he or she is given the mandate to serve, saying, “Jesus Christ came to serve humanity in various capacities, and so should all His disciples.”

Apostle Osei Amaniampong said this during the retirement service of Deaconess Kate Acquah at the Alajo Central Assembly on December 9, 2018.

Deaconess Kate Acquah has served the Church in various capacities as an unpaid officer for the past 31 years.

Reading from John 12: 1- 5, Apostle Amaniampong noted that one does not have to be ordained as an officer of the Church (deacon, deaconess and an elder), or assume a position in the Church before they serve.

He explained that when Jesus attended the feast at Bethany, Martha served all the guests. Also, her sister Mary, anointed and prepared Jesus’ corpse for burial by breaking the alabaster box at His feet and used her hair to clean it, which symbolises servanthood. “She was rebuked by Judas Iscariot for what she did, but Mary was not perturbed because it was her way of showing reverence and service to God,” he stressed.

He stated that just as Mary was criticized in her service to the Lord, there will be critics and various forms of attacks from people, but that should not deter anyone from continuing serving God.

Apostle Amaniampong encouraged the members to serve God with their time, body and possessions. “You should serve God with all you have and He will bless you,” he added.
