The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called for a renewed national commitment to moral leadership, integrity, and collective responsibility, describing them as critical foundations for achieving sustainable development.

Delivering the Vice President’s message at the opening session of the 2026 National Development Conference (NADEC) organised by The Church of Pentecost at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, her political advisor, Hon. Dr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, said on her behalf that Ghana’s transformation must extend beyond economic growth and physical infrastructure to include the values that shape citizens, institutions, and national leadership.

According to the Vice President, true national development requires a society anchored on integrity, accountability, and a shared commitment to the common good.

She noted that although economic progress remains essential, it does not automatically lead to national transformation unless it is supported by responsible citizenship, ethical leadership, and strong moral foundations.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasised that the greatest resource of any nation is its people and the opportunities available to them, irrespective of political, ethnic, or social backgrounds.

She urged Ghanaians to place the national interest above personal interests, stressing that the country’s development challenges require the collective efforts of government, religious organisations, traditional authorities, the private sector and citizens.
The Vice President stated that Ghana’s progress depends on the ability of leaders and citizens to work together towards a shared national vision.

She described the National Development Conference as more than a platform for discussion but a strategic opportunity for stakeholders to bring together ideas, experiences, and resources towards building a more inclusive and sustainable future.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended traditional leaders for their continued contributions to national development through initiatives in education, healthcare, community development, and family life education.

She also praised The Church of Pentecost for complementing the government’s development efforts through social interventions that continue to impact lives across the country.

The Vice President further called for renewed national efforts to safeguard peace, promote integrity, create sustainable employment opportunities, protect the environment, strengthen families, and build resilient national institutions.

The 2026 National Development Conference has brought together leaders from government, traditional institutions, the Church, academia, the private sector, and civil society to deliberate on values-driven approaches to Ghana’s development.
