The Ministry to Persons with Disabilities (MPWDs) of The Church of Pentecost, in collaboration with Joni and Friends International, has donated 30 assistive devices to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at the Sokodé Regional Hospital in Togo.
The donation forms part of efforts by the two organisations to promote inclusion, enhance mobility and improve the quality of life of persons living with disabilities.
The donation team was led by Apostle Koudjessou Komi, Sokodé Central Area Head, who represented the National Head of The Church of Pentecost in Togo, Apostle Lare Banimpo. He was accompanied by members of the MPWDs National Executive Committee, led by Pastor Alexander Nyame (MPWDs Coordinator), as well as representatives of Joni and Friends International, led by Pastor Joel Quansah, West Africa Country Coordinator.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Director of the Sokodé Regional Hospital, Mr Carlos Pascal Foly-Yssouh, expressed appreciation to The Church of Pentecost and Joni and Friends for the gesture.
He assured the team that the hospital would follow up on the distribution of the devices to ensure that they reach the intended beneficiaries.
Speaking during the presentation, Apostle Komi said the initiative was intended to support persons with disabilities who require mobility and other assistive support.
According to him, the items comprised 10 specialised devices for children, 10 wheelchairs for adults, 10 walkers and five white canes.
He emphasised that disability should not be a barrier to participation in society, noting that assistive devices such as wheelchairs provide more than physical mobility.
“A wheelchair is not just a technical material; it is a tool of dignity and a means to move, work and participate in the community,” he said.
Apostle Komi acknowledged the challenges faced by healthcare providers in serving persons with disabilities and expressed the Church’s commitment to supporting such efforts.
He said: “There are challenges in the hospital, and the staff are working hard. With this gift, our church would like to sustain your efforts by bringing these gifts to your patients whenever they come for your services.”
Pastor Joel Quansah, speaking on behalf of Joni and Friends, described the team’s visit as a family engagement aimed at demonstrating God’s love and care for persons with disabilities.
“We came as a family, and we know God loves you. We are here to be of service to you. We are glad you are here, and we want you to relax so that we can work together to make a transformation,” he said.
He further assured the beneficiaries of their value and importance, explaining that the donation was made possible through the shipment of a container of assistive devices from Joni and Friends.
Pastor Quansah encouraged the beneficiaries to recognise their worth and assured them that they were valued not only in Africa but also by partners in the United States of America.
The MPWDs seeks to build a strong ministry to persons with disabilities through effective evangelism and discipleship while promoting their holistic development and participation in the Church and society. This focus aligns with the Church’s transformational agenda under Vision 2028.
Also present at the donation exercise were Pastor Modest Mkpakpa, Secretary to the Togo National Head; Pastor Joshua Semador, Northern Sector Coordinator of MPWDs; Pastor Isaac Aboagye, Western and Western North Coordinator of MPWDs; Pastor Mondi Yobi Khalifa, Togo National Coordinator of MPWDs and Minister-in-charge of Special Ministry for the Deaf; and a cross-section of the Area pastorate.
