The La Area Head and Executive Council Member of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Dieudonne Komla Nuekpe, has stressed the need for pastors and Christian leaders to be labourers ready to serve God’s purpose, not bosses over their members.

He said this on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Canaan Assembly during the inauguration of the newly created Canaan District in La Area. The service was also used to welcome Pastor Manasseh Nabaku Blantyne and his family, who were transferred from Kalpohin District in Tamale to lead the new district.

Canaan District was carved out from two districts – Accra Newtown and Nima – during this year’s Extraordinary Council Meeting in May. The district comprises three assemblies: Canaan (formerly under Accra Newtown District), and Rehoboth and English assemblies (formerly under Nima District).

Referencing Matthew 9:35-38, Apostle Dr Nuekpe spoke on the theme, ‘Unleashed to Serve God’s Purpose in the City,’ declaring that anyone privileged to be in the city has been unleashed by God to serve His purpose. He added that the ‘Possessing the Nations’ agenda can only succeed with cities in mind, where much of the work is concentrated.

Quoting Acts 1:8, Jonah 1:2, and Luke 19:41-44, Apostle Dr Nuekpe stressed that the progress of city churches is the heartbeat of God, saying, ‘Once cities are possessed, the rest becomes much easier. God looks for city pastors for city dwellers.’

He explained that God expects city pastors and church leaders to be humble in service to draw many to Christ. They should be labourers who understand the dynamics of city life and the cosmopolitan nature of cities. According to him, God seeks labourers who can understand people of all levels.

Apostle Dr Dieudonne Komla Nuekpe advised Pastor Nabaku Blantyne and his wife to be strong and firm in decision-making, to be servants and not bosses, and to be witnesses and not judges.

‘Correct in love and allow the Holy Spirit to change individuals. Do not discriminate, for you have been called to turn people’s hearts from darkness to light, bearing in mind that city ministry demands proof of God’s hand upon your life,’ he said.

He continued with scriptural references to Acts 8:4-8 and 18:1-10, encouraging them to be good to everyone everywhere.

‘Understand that you have been sent to God’s people, so do not live to please men or for acceptance but be genuinely concerned about the people entrusted to your care. Be strong and firm as a Pentecostal worker and depend mostly on the grace of God for success,’ he concluded.
