The President of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), Mr. Albert Dwumfour, who is an Elder of The Church of Pentecost, has been elected to the steering committee of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ), the largest organisation of African journalists.
This took place during FAJ’s recently-held congress, which saw the election of Omar Faruk Osman of Somalia as its new president.
Elder Albert Dwumfour will be serving on the Steering Committee alongside Mr. Zied Dabbar from Tunisia (Vice President), Ms. Marie Luisa Rogiero from Angola (Honorary Treasurer), Erik Oduor from Kenya (Member), Mr. Jean Claude Koulibaly from Cote D’Ivoire (Member), Sadiq Ibrahim Amed Ibrahim from Sudan (Member), Mr. Mohammed El-Talbi from Morocco (Member), and Ms. Obam Mejo Marion from Cameroon (Member).
The Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) is a regional organisation that serves as a collective voice for IFJ affiliates in Africa. It plays a crucial role in advocating for the social and professional rights of African journalists, a mission that aligns with its commitment to defending freedom of expression and the right to information.
Founded in 2007, FAJ provides support and solidarity to unions and associations with a mandate to promote trade union development in the media industry in Africa. It addresses professional issues, protects and defends freedom of expression and the right to information, as well as journalists’ human rights, as laid down in the Declaration of Principles of Freedom of Expression in Africa.
