The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has encouraged Christians to remain strong in their faith in the Lord in the face of the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

He said that though it is a fact that the deadly COVID-19 disease continues to claim thousands of lives, the power of God can wipe out the virus from the face of the earth for the world to be free.

Speaking at a Special Evening Service on PENT TV on Sunday, April 5, 2020, on the topic, “Can God?” with the main Scripture taken from Psalm 78:1-22, Apostle Nyamekye encouraged believers to be true children of Abraham, the man of faith who believed God and trusted in His deliverance.

“Let us be children of Abraham in the midst of this COVID-19. Let not this sickness scare us and take away our faith from the Omnipotent God. Let us be children of Abraham in faith. Abraham believed God, the God who called things as though they were. Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed; he still found some space to believe. Against all hope, Abraham believed and so became the father of nations.

“Without weakening in faith, Abraham faced the fact that his body was as weak as dead since he was 100 years old and that Sarah’s womb was also dead, yet he did not waver regarding what God had promised,” he said, adding, “For God to reveal His power, He waited till Abraham was completely dead so that He will show His power.”

Referring to the main Scripture, Apostle Nyamekye said that the Israelites tested God by doubting His ability to provide for them. “For them it was going to be impossible for God to give them food in the wilderness, hence they desired to go back to Egypt. They thought God’s ability could not meet their needs,” he mentioned. This, he said, resulted in God’s wrath against them.

According to the Chairman, certain things can be fact, but Christians should not take their minds off the fact that God is the truth, because the truth is greater than fact. He explained that a fact might not necessarily mean the actual state of a matter.

Also reading from Romans 11:36, the Chairman said that everything dissolves into God. “Everything starts from God and ends with Him. Facts dissolve into the truth. Fact will always dissolve into God. Despite the fact that Abraham’s body was dead, yet his eyes were on the truth. Abraham was fully persuaded that God had power to do what He had promised. The word of God is the truth,” he said.

“May the truth [God] consume the fact of this COVID-19. I’m not denying the fact that this Coronavirus is a deadly disease, but I want to state that there is a truth, a power that can swallow this Coronavirus. We have basis to believe that Coronavirus is a deadly disease, because it is claiming lives and the statistics are there to prove it. However, there is the truth to mitigate the fact.

Narrating how Jesus raised the daughter of Jairus, a leader of the Synagogue, from death, he said the people around initially laughed at Jesus because it was a fact that the damsel was dead and that nothing could be done to raise her back to life.

“We shouldn’t be threatened by this deadly disease. Don’t let this virus take our faith in God away. Rather, let us be strengthened in faith and rise in prayer and our God, who is the truth, will consume this disease and the world shall be free indeed,” he encouraged Christians.

“It is a fact that we are fighting with COVID-19, but the truth is that God is still on His throne. He is the creator of the heavens and the earth. COVID-19 will be dissolved into the truth. There are so many stories about this COVID-19 which is threatening all of us – locking down nations, keeping nobles in quarantine, causing people to run away to the villages, scaring doctors because the disease is actually claiming lives.

“COVID-19 is scaring everyone, but the question is ‘Can God?’ The Israelites knew that God caused water to gush out from a stone for them to drink, yet they asked, ‘Can God?’ That statement is to question God’s ability, which was why God got angry at them. To prove to them that He was still able, God gave them food but He killed most of them,” he indicated.

The Chairman further stated: “I want to tell the world that we are not denying the fact of COVID-19, but the truth is that Jesus heals. And He is the Lord God Almighty. Everything dissolves into Him. I’m praying that He will rise and wipe away this COVID-19 from the planet earth.

“Can God save the situation that we are in? Yes, God can. He is the truth. We are not denying the fact of the COVID-19, and so are not telling you to just go out and do whatever you like, but don’t be afraid because the God in heaven is still our God. Let us pray to the truth who will swallow this fact of COVID-19. Don’t be like the Israelites; don’t look at COVID-19 and say, ‘Can God?’ Don’t question the ability of God because our God is able.

“There are a certain group of people on earth who will always make the difference; they are called the children of God. If you are one of us then take heart, it is not over yet; God is still with us. Let us keep crying unto Him and there will be no place for COVID-19.”
