The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, has reminded Christians, particularly leaders, that true Christian leadership is rooted in servanthood, sacrifice, humility, and discipline.
Delivering a sermon on the theme “The Christian Leader” during the farewell service for the outgoing Counselling Ministry (COPCOM) Director of the Church, Apostle Dr. Phillip Osei-Korsah, his wife Evelyn, and family, at the D.K. Arnan Worship Centre on Sunday, Apostle Obuobi cautioned against blind leadership that lacks direction.
Quoting Matthew 20:26–28, he stressed that Christian leaders are called to serve, not to lord authority over others.
“Whoever desires to become great among you must be a servant, just as Jesus did not come to be served but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many,” he said.
He further explained that the Christian leader is also a shepherd tasked with caring for and building relationships with the flock of God.
Drawing from Acts 20:28 and John 10:14, he emphasised that leadership requires both sacrifice and close relationship with the people one leads.
Apostle Obuobi also described the Christian leader as an instrument in the hands of God, comparing leaders to clay in the hands of the potter as recorded in Jeremiah 18:1–4.
He underscored the need for leaders to surrender their will completely to God, discovering and walking in His purpose for their lives.
In addition, he likened leaders to soldiers, quoting 2 Timothy 2:4 to admonish them to remain disciplined, vigilant, and devoted at all times.
“The leader must not play with his or her devotion, but must stay on guard and live a life that pleases the one who has called him,” he urged.
The farewell service brought together ministers of the Church (both active and retired), members, family, and well-wishers to show solidarity with Apostle Dr. Phillip Osei-Korsah and his family as they head to Nkawkaw to serve as Area Head.
