PIWC Sakumono Women’s Ministry Visits New Life Orphanage

The Women’s Ministry of the  Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) – Sakumono, in the  Teshie-Nungua Area of The Church of Pentecost, last Saturday, November 21, 2020, visited the New Life Orphanage at Nungua, Accra and donated assorted items worth about GH¢10,000.00. to the inmates ahead of Christmas.

Accompanied by their District Minister, Pastor Anthony Owusu Sekyere Kwarteng, and his wife Eunice, the women donated items such as rice, cooking oil, beverages, drinks, Tombrown from Tims foods, canned mushrooms, canned fish, sugar, powdered milk,  noodles, eggs, packs of mineral water and bags of sachet water to the facility.

The rest of the items included sanitary pads, toilet rolls, bathing soaps, powdered soap, baby diapers, and used clothing among others.  

They also presented an amount of GH¢ 2,000.00  to the Home to support the upkeep of the inmates.

In an exhortation,  the District Women’s Ministry Leader, Deaconess Isabella Orhin, quoted Psalm 46:1-5 and Psalm 3:3, and encouraged the inmates to see God as their ultimate helper and the source of their daily provision.

“It is God who touches the hearts of the people who come here to help you. Therefore, do not think that your help is from them, but God,” she said. She encouraged them to lead a life worthy of emulation so they would become responsible and good adults in society and the world at large.

Receiving the items, the Head of the Home, Nii Afotey Botwe II, expressed his gratitude to the Women’s Ministry of the church for the support in spite of the economic challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He appealed to individuals and other organisations to also come to their aid. According to him, families interested in adopting children from the Home can contact the Department of Social Welfare for directives.

He mentioned that the Home also supports about 240 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and some deprived individuals who walk into the facility for food and shelter.

The District Minister, Pastor Anthony Kwarteng, prayed for both the caretakers and the inmates of the Home asking God to intervene in their spiritual, academic, health, emotional, and physiological lives.

The children expressed their joy and appreciation to God and the church through song ministrations.

Established some 20 years ago, the New Life Orphanage currently houses 92 inmates, some of whom are now schooling in tertiary institutions.

Haatso Area HUM Outreach Yields 125 Souls

A total of 125 persons surrendered their lives to Christ following a series of evangelistic activities undertaken by the Haatso Area Home and Urban Missions (HUM) of The Church of Pentecost at some slums and unreached parts of the capital city, Accra.

The event, which took place from Monday, September 14 to Sunday, September 20, 2020, was organised in collaboration with the Southern Sector HUM Coordinator, Pastor Joseph Taah Appiah and his team.

Among other things, the event was aimed at evangelising to unreached target/people groups, establishing mono-ethnic assemblies, and training HUM stakeholders in the area.

On the first day, the team visited the Dome Train Station area – a converging point for drug peddlers, addicts, prostitutes, the neglected poor and other vulnerable people, where they shared the gospel of Christ with them. The exercise recorded a total of 27 souls made up of 25 drug addicts and sex workers (both male and female) as well as 2 women of the Kassena ethnic group. A similar exercise at the same location in April, yielded 17 souls, thus totalling 44.

The team visited the Kwabenya Abuom Junction area and the Dome Market on day 2 of the exercise. There, a total of 52 washing bay attendants, drug addicts (at a popular place in the Dome Market area called “Afghanistan”) and porters/truck/wheelbarrow pushers were evangelised to and led to Christ.

On the third day, the team partnered with the Macedonia Assembly HUM to evangelise at slums and “ghettos” in the Atomic area. To the glory of God 34 souls were won comprising 12 children and 22 adults, with some of being drug addicts. They have since joined the Macedonia Assembly.

The Team met with Pastor Alex Kyere of Dome New Town District on Day 4 to discuss the possibility of reactivating the Kassena mono-ethnic church at the Ebenezer Assembly that had been merged with the Akan Assembly. Following fruitful deliberations, the District Pastor has decided to resume services for the sizeable Kassena population in the Pillar 2 community. Another outreach undertaken in the urban slum close to the Agbogba Central Assembly/Police Station in the late afternoon yielded 19 souls.

The final outreach which was carried out at the Adenta-WASS slum area on Day 5 of the exercise recorded 33 souls (both adults and children). The converts have since joined the Adenta-WASS HUM Assembly.  In all, the total number of persons led to Christ during the weeklong exercise was 165.

On Day 6, however, a day’s workshop was held at the Haatso Central Assembly church auditorium for HUM volunteers, presiding elders, as well as local, district and area HUM coordinating teams.

The event was opened by the Haatso Area Head, Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang-Bekoe, with Pastor Joseph Taah Appiah as the main facilitator. The weeklong activities were climaxed with the inauguration of the WASS HUM Assembly at Adenta. The Adenta District Minister, Pastor Emmanuel Oppong Donkor has demonstrated great commitment towards the HUM concept by leading a group of persons to raise an amount of GHS 1,000.00 to support members of the new HUM assembly.

Aside from appointing a presbytery to manage the assembly, Pastor Oppong Donkor has also put the new converts up for “adoption and rehabilitation” by members of the Adenta Central Assembly and has promised them a set of instruments and sporting kits (football and jersey) for the youth members of the assembly.

The Haatso Area HUM looks to undertake a similar exercise to consolidate gains made so far and also break fallow grounds across the Haatso Area–especially in the Pantang, Haatso and DNT Districts before the end of the year 2020. Efforts are also being made to retain as many souls won during the weeklong exercise as possible in the church.

The Haatso Area Head is commended for his continuous support to the Area HUM, particularly for releasing an amount of GHS 2,650.00 to support their activities. From this amount, the leadership of the Haatso Area HUM has procured 2 rechargeable /mobile public address (PA) systems and other personal protective equipment (PPE) for onward distribution to the Adenta and Redco HUM mobile assemblies.

HUM Pastors & Wives Hold Annual Retreat

This year’s retreat for Home and Urban Missions (HUM) ministers and their spouses has ended at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Brofoyedru, in Kumasi.

The annual retreat, which was themed, “Building HUM to Possess the Nations” (Nehemiah 2:18, Ephesians 3:10, 21 and Ephesians 5:27) was under the auspices of the Chairman of HUM, Apostle Dr Christian Tsekpoe, and the National HUM Coordinator, Pastor Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo.

The event brought together HUM Pastors and their wives in Accra and Kumasi as well as the newly appointed HUM Pastors designate for the Brong and Ahafo Sectors, Eastern Region and Walewale sectors. Also, ministers of some HUM designated stations like Savelegu and Yagaba were invited to participate in the retreat.

Speaking to participants on the theme of the event, Pastor Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo admonished Christian leaders to work zealously for God in all assigned roles.

He said that, like Nehemiah, Christian leaders should have a burden for the Lord’s work (Nehemiah 1:1-4). He pointed out that when Nehemiah was informed by some brothers among the remnant from Jerusalem about the state of the Temple and the Wall, he became sorrowful, cried, fasted and prayed to the Lord Almighty.

Pastor Kwafo emphasised that it was the burden and passion for the people that made Nehemiah go before the king to seek permission to go and rebuild the Walls of Jerusalem. He also encouraged believers to seek the face of God whenever they encountered any daunting task.

The event had in attendance: Mrs Agartha Agyei Kwafo (Wife of National Coordinator), Pastors Joseph Taah Appiah (HUM Pastor, Accra Sector), Thomas Ayamboya (HUM Pastor, Kumasi), Gabriel Owusu Akyaw (HUM Pastor designate, Eastern Region) and their wives, as well as Pastors Enoch P. K. Anaman (HUM Pastor designate, Brong Ahafo), Daniel Nabaku (HUM Pastor designate, Walewale). Others were Overseers Richard Osei-Poku (Area Coordinator, Tamale), Kwaku Kwantwi Asiedu (Secretariat), Emmanuel Otchere Darko (Stationed at Yagaba) and their wives and Diallo Sulemana Abubakar (Field Assistant, Fulani Ministry).

The 2020 HUM Pastors and Wives’ started on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 and ended on Thursday, August 27, 2020. The event featured fasting and prayer sessions as well as series of word ministrations

The Church Of Pentecost Gives To Slums, Marginalised In Accra

The Home and Urban Missions (HUM) of The Church of Pentecost has distributed assorted food items to some slum communities in the Accra Metropolis and Kasoa, including Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the wake of the lockdown following the outbreak of the COVID-19 disease.

In all, 200 persons benefited from the gesture with each receiving a bag of mini rice, cooking oil, tomato paste, canned fish, toilet rolls and sachet water, at the total cost of GHS 22,740.00.

The distribution of the items, which took place on 6th April, 2020, saw some of the beneficiaries giving their lives to Jesus Christ.  

The beneficiaries included HUM members in Kasoa, Ofaakor, Sodom and Gomorrah, Agbogbloshie, Osu Ghetto, Airport Junction Ghetto, Adenta District, and Ashaiman.

Meanwhile, the National and Area HUM leadership of the church has raised an amount of GHS 3,698.00 to provide a meal for 400 mentally challenged people on the streets of Accra, Kasoa and Ashaiman.
