820 students of the Pentecost University College graduated with Diplomas, Degrees, Masters Certificates and others in various fields of study on Saturday, December, 2018 during the University’s 10th Graduation Ceremony.

The event, which had the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in attendance as the Guest Speaker, was also graced by the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost and Chancellor of the University, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the General Secretary, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, the Chairperson of the PUC Council, Her Ladyship Elizabeth Ankomah and the Rector of the College, Apostle Dr. Daniel Walker.

Also present were representatives of the university’s affiliating institutions, namely University of Ghana, Legon and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), management and staff of PUC, as well as relatives, friends and well-wishers of the graduands.

Addressing the gathering, Apostle Eric Nyamekye said The Church of Pentecost in her vision for the next five years dubbed “Vision 2023” aims to “possess the nation” by transforming every sphere of life with kingdom values and principles. As a result, the Church would seek to partner with the government to help improve the life of the Ghanaian citizenry.

The Chairman said that, in the area of education, the Church plans to build more Senior High Schools in the next five years to sustain the government’s policy of free SHS and help underprivileged students to have equal access to better education. He also said the Church would put up prison facilities, Community Health Posts (CHP) compounds, and also intensify its sanitation campaign.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in his address, commended the leadership of the university and charged them to develop a rich curriculum and deliver first class teaching to empower the students. He also noted that tertiary institutions could contribute to the government’s “Ghana Beyond Aid” agenda by helping to build the country’s knowledge base through basic and applied research and also inculcating core value systems in our conduct as individuals, as community members and leaders.

The Vice President also said that government on its part, would continue to provide resources for tertiary institutions.

Dr. Bawumia also pledged the government’s support to the university’s quest to become autonomous. He also commended the graduands and urged them to be ambitious in their quest for greatness and not to listen to naysayers who will discourage them from taking initiatives.

The PUC Rector, Apostle Dr. Daniel Walker, in turn, urged government to support private tertiary institutions since unfavourable conditions in the education sector are stifling the growth of such institutions.

He mentioned high charges of programme assessment fees, high institutional accreditation fees, high utility charges among others as some of the contributory factors to high tuition fees, which has prevented a high number of students from enrolling in tertiary institutions, especially the ones.
