The immediate past Director of the Evangelism Ministry of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Michael Collins Asiedu, has stressed the need for Christians to seek the power of the Holy Spirit in order to fulfill the Great Commission by bringing all souls to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

He has indicated that the Holy Spirit is an indispensable partner of Christians who helps them to be effective witnesses of Christ and imitate Him, saying, “Nothing can be done in evangelism without the Holy Spirit, because we need the power of the Holy Spirit in winning souls, discipling souls, casting out demons, healing the sick, and even enduring persecution.”

Apostle M. C. Asiedu, who is the current Area Head of Suame in Kumasi, said this in a presentation on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at EVACON 2018 which is underway at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh.

EVACON (Evangelism Conference) is a biennial conference organised by the Evangelism Ministry of The Church of Pentecost. This year’s conference is under the theme, “Making Jesus’ Priority Our Ardent Passion: Evangelism In The 21st Century.” It is being attended by about 3,000 participants drawn from the various parts of the country.

Apostle Asiedu spoke on the topic, “The Role of the Holy Spirit in Evangelism” with Luke 4:14-18 as his anchor text, and Acts 4:33; 1 Corinthians 2:4 as supporting texts.

He explained that the Holy Spirit was given to believers primarily to maximize all that salvation has brought unto them. He pointed out that salvation comes with a package, but it takes the Holy Spirit for one to enjoy the package to its fullness (1 Corinthians 2:9-14).

He also revealed that the Holy Spirit was given to make the Christian life and service very effective, fruitful, impactful and profitable. “The Holy Spirit is given to you so that you will be effective in your service which include evangelism,” he said.

The Suame Area Head also stressed the need for believers to appreciate the strategic importance of the church in God’s plan.

“The Church is the agent of God to continue the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. It is the only institution that is truly interested in the afterlife of human soul. The church is the only institution that takes care of the physical needs of human beings and the spiritual needs of the soul.

“Because we are dealing with the eternal destinies of souls, God has committed that responsibility to the church. The church is the only institution that God can trust for the true redemption of humanity.

“The assignment that God has committed to us is so enormous that without the Holy Spirit we cannot do it effectively. All of us are evangelists and we must witness about Christ,” he said.

Touching on the reasons Christians need the Holy Spirit, Apostle M. C. Asiedu said that the Holy Spirit cloths believers with power which covers their weaknesses, shame, scars, and further empowers them to do extraordinary things. He also said that the Holy Spirit helps believers to deal with the spiritual conditions of unbelievers and the opposition of the adversary.
