The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, on Friday, July 3, 2026, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC)–Akropong auditorium in the Koforidua Area.

The ceremony, held at the project site in Akropong-Akuapem, brought together the Koforidua Area Head, Apostle Mike Kwame Etrue and his wife, Mrs Ernestina Etrue, ministers and their spouses, traditional authorities, as well as members of the Church to witness the commencement of what is expected to become a major centre of worship and ministry in the area.

Delivering the sermon, Apostle Obuobi challenged Christians to consistently reflect their identity in Christ wherever they find themselves, stressing that believers are called to be “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world” to preserve godliness and dispel corruption in society.

Quoting Matthew 5:13-16, he explained that the Christian life is not confined to church auditoriums but is to be demonstrated in homes, workplaces, classrooms, boardrooms, and every sphere of society. He likened the church to a dressing room where believers are equipped before being sent into the world to live out Christlike lives.

He lamented the widening gap between faith and conduct, observing that many who profess Christianity engage in unethical practices in their workplaces. According to him, believers lose the significance of their calling when they fail to influence society with Kingdom values.

Drawing lessons from the lives of Nehemiah, Joseph, Daniel and David, Apostle Obuobi urged Christians, especially those occupying positions of influence, to remain steadfast in righteousness despite opposition. He noted that believers who develop deep roots in Christ are able to withstand life’s storms, assuring the congregation that God always vindicates those who faithfully stand for Him.

The establishment of PIWC Akropong traces its roots to the 46th Session of the General Council Meetings of The Church of Pentecost in 2023, where approval was granted for the creation of the district.

Even before the district was inaugurated, God had already prepared the way through the generosity of Elder Emmanuel Yirenkyi Antwi and his family, who donated four plots of land near Larteh Junction for the construction of a permanent auditorium.

PIWC Akropong was officially inaugurated on August 31, 2023, by the Koforidua Area Head, Apostle Mike Kwame Etrue. In its early stages, the district functioned as a centre-level district, with the constituent English assemblies worshipping at their respective locations while plans for a permanent place of worship progressed.

With seed funding and continuous support from the Executive Council of The Church of Pentecost construction commenced under the supervision of the Area Head and the pioneering District Minister, Pastor Alex Kojo Adjani.

Following the assumption of office by the current District Minister, Pastor Emmanuel Yarquah, the congregation was mobilised to unite at a single worship centre. Through the sacrificial giving and commitment of members, a functional basement was completed, enabling the district to hold its 2025 Christmas Convention on the project site.

The convention marked a significant milestone in the district’s journey, culminating in the merger of the previously scattered worship centres into one unified congregation.
