A former Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof William Otoo Ellis, has been appointed as the new Director of the Children’s Ministry of The Church of Pentecost.
As part of his appointment, Prof Otoo Ellis was also ordained as a Pastor of the Church.
Now known as Pastor (Rev). Prof William Otoo Ellis, the astute academic will spearhead the Church’s agenda of raising God-fearing and spirit-filled children who will be agents of transformation in society.
His appointment was contained in a White Paper issued at the end of the 44th Session of the General Council Meetings held virtually from June 1 – 6, 2020, and signed by the Chairman of the Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye.
Prof Otoo Ellis, an Elder of the Church, until his appointment, was the Deputy Director of the Children’s Ministry. He replaces his former boss, Apostle Fred Tiakor, who has served for eight (8) years. An Accra-based lawyer and elder of the Church, Alfred Aidoo of Achimota Area, has been appointed as his deputy.
The Children’s Ministry trains children in the church along biblical precepts of balanced growth. It also ministers to primary schools and orphans and organises vacation Bible schools and camp meetings. It also conducts counselling sessions, organises media evangelism, and carries out other specialised children-related functions.
Meanwhile, other ministries in the Church such as the Pentecost Men’s Ministry (PEMEM) and the Women’s Ministry, have also seen some changes in leadership.
Apostle Vincent Anane Denteh, Area Head for Sefwi-Bekwai, has been appointed Director of the Men’s Ministry, while Mrs. Philomina Mireku, a Koforidua-based nurse and wife of renowned gospel musician Elder Dr Kwasi Mireku, has also been appointed Director of the Women’s Ministry. Deaconess Vivian Amfo of Kaneshie Area will serve as her deputy.
Apostle Anane Denteh replaces Apostle Emmanuel Ofei Ankra-Badu, who served in that capacity for four (4) years, while Mrs. Philomina Mireku also replaces Mrs. Grace Lucy Yeboah-Asuamah, who led the women’s wing of the Church for eight (8) years.
With regards to the Youth Ministry, Elder Dr. Eric Apau-Asante of Asokwa Area in Kumasi has been appointed Deputy Director of the Youth Ministry. He replaces Elder Amos Kevin-Annan who has served for sixteen (16) years.
