The Schools Outreach Ministry (SOM) of The Church of Pentecost has welcomed newly admitted pupils and learners promoted to Class One and Junior High School One as part of its nationwide “My First Day at School” initiative.
The initiative, held in collaboration with the Ga North Municipal Education Directorate, was climaxed at the Ofankor M/A Basic School in the Ga North Municipality, where pupils were ushered into the new academic year through a colourful ceremony.
The event brought together the Achimota Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Joseph Danzerl; SOM National Coordinator, Pastor Frank Mensah Tandoh; Ga North Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Akwetey Agbo; Ga North Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Esther Jones Sarfo; Ofankor Mantse, Nii Kotey Boi II; traditional leaders, education officials, ministers and officers of the Achimota Area, headteachers, teachers, pupils and SOM workers.
The ceremony featured a vibrant blend of culture and entertainment, including brass band music, choreography and traditional performances, creating an exciting atmosphere for the pupils as they began a new chapter in their educational journey.
A major highlight was the launch of the SOM Discipleship Manual, designed to support the spiritual and character development of learners reached through the ministry’s school outreach programmes.
The manual is expected to provide a structured resource for nurturing the faith and values of pupils across schools partnered by SOM.
As part of the initiative, SOM also donated books and other learning materials to pupils who participated in the programme, providing practical support to help them begin the academic year adequately equipped.
The “My First Day at School” initiative forms part of SOM’s broader commitment to supporting children at critical stages of their educational journey while promoting holistic development through collaboration with schools, education authorities and local communities.
The initiative was simultaneously extended to schools in various parts of the country, making the welcome of new learners a nationwide SOM engagement at the beginning of the new academic year.
