The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon in the Greater Accra region, Emmanuel Kwabena Kyeremateng Agyarko, has died at the age of 60.
Family sources said he died Wednesday after a short illness for which he had undergone corrective surgery.
The Legislator passed on at a hospital in the United States. He had gone to the United States to seek medical care after an undisclosed medical condition was stabilised at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.
Born on December 10, 1957, the soft-spoken Kyeremateng Agyarko, brother of the former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko was formerly Chief Executive Officer of the Food and Drugs Board (2001 – 2009).
He was a pharmacist and hailed from Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region and Jamasi in Ashanti.
As a member of the governing NPP, Mr. Agarko has been the MP for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency since 2012, after he replaced the current Chief of Staff, Frema Opare as MP for the area.
In Parliament, he served on the committees of Environment, Science and Technology Committee, chaired the Government Assurance Committee, and also served on the Health Committee.
He was loved by many in and outside the NPP, as he related well with all manner of people regardless of their social status.
He was also admired for how articulate, calm and knowledgeable he was in putting forth his arguments.
The late MP was a pharmacist, medical doctor, and a politician. He was married with seven children.
