With all impediments and hurdles scaled, the Ghana Premier League returns this weekend with seven top games lined up in match venues across the country.
Reigning Champions Aduana Stars will not be in action on the opening day of the league as they travel to Algeria to face ES Setif in their CAF Champions League second leg game this weekend.
The first match of the opening week will see Inter Allies host Bechem United at the Tema Stadium with both teams hoping to start the season on good note and avoid the near fall they almost suffered last season.
At the Dawu Stadium, Dreams FC’s will mark their return to the topflight with a game against Elmina Sharks FC on Sunday.
Dreams will be hoping to record a win on the opening day after an impressive preseason which saw them win this year’s GHALCA G-8 tournament.
With this being the first time the two times will be facing each other, it promises to be a cagey encounter as Sharks will come into the game with all the experience they gathered in the league last season.
The people of Techiman will once again taste Premier League football with Hearts of Oak storming the Brong Ahafo in what promises to be a show down between the two sides.
Wonders, runners up at the GFA Gala, qualified to the Premier League having narrowly emerged as winners of Zone One (Division One) and the game against former league champions Hearts of Oak will well test their readiness for topflight football.
The Phobians are however looking to end their trophy drought this season and will hope to secure the three maximum points on Sunday. Former League Champions Wa All Stars who won the Maiden edition of the GFA Star Times Gala, are marching south to face Ashantigold, a tie that ended in favour or the Miners last season.
League entrants Karela FC will be welcomed into the Premiership with their opening game against Medeama in a Western regional derby, the first derby of the new season.
In what could be described as the biggest game of the opening day, WAFA will host Asante Kotoko on Sunday in Sogakope.
The Porcupine warriors who have recorded some impressive results in preseason, will go into the game with revenge on their minds having been defeated in last season’s fixture.
Ebusua Dwarfs will also lock horns with Berekum Chelsea at the Cape Coast Stadium. All teams look set for the league and well prepared for the league and Ghanaians should expect yet another exciting edition of the GPL.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s game in Tema and the match between WAFA and Asante Kotoko will be live on Star Times.
