Mr Kwaku Agyapong and his wife, Deaconess Mercy Agyapong, both members of The Church of Pentecost, gave birth to triplets on May 14, 2017, after being married for 26 years without a child.
The couple, who fellowship with the Bethel Assembly in Atwima Koforidua District of the Abuakwa Area, shared their testimony with members during the naming and dedication service for the babies.
Narrating the ordeal prior to their divine breakthrough, Deaconess Agyapong said that five years into their marriage, she conceived but it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy. For this reason, the pregnancy could not see the light of day. The situation was quite difficult to bear.
According to Mrs Agyapong, at the initial stages, close family relatives intensified pressure on her to see a spiritualist, who they claim could help.
In order not to be seen as unconcerned about her predicament, she agreed. However, after few meetings with the spiritualist who was to provide her with an antidote, she declined further encounters. The reason was that the spiritualist demanded a fat goat, only for her to return moments later to find the spiritualist and his wife enjoying a delicacy prepared with the goat she had presented for the ritual. She then decided not to confer with the spiritualist any longer, not even further pressure from the families could intimidate her.
Deaconess Agyapong resorted to fervent prayer and full commitment to God, and would not miss any programme in her District.
Late 2015, which was 24 years into her marriage, she conceived and delivered a child in July 2016, but sadly the child died a week after delivery. This development completely broke her down.
According to the couple, they received sympathies from relatives, friends and members of the church. However, within the sympathizers were some group of people who advised them to give up hope for God may not intend their marriage for procreation.
Deaconess Mercy narrated that the discouraging remarks from some sympathizers pushed her to pray further.
“Oh God, please have mercy on me. Do not let your servant depart this world childless. Lord, would all my toils, prayer and the colossi amounts spent at various hospitals be in vain? Please Lord, give me a testimony a year by this time,” she prayed.
10 months after that prayer she conceived. Deaconess Mercy Agyapong said that the doctors counselled her to opt for surgery to which she concurred. However, after the surgery that lasted seven hours, the medical team had a difficulty reviving her.
She was referred to Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi but the medical team there also had a great deal of difficulty. By God’s grace, she regained consciousness hours later.
The doctors who were on duty at the time sought to know the church that Deaconess Mercy Agyapong and her husband attend, and they mentioned The Church of Pentecost. One of the doctors then remarked, “Your wonderful God has saved you”.
The couple expressed appreciation to the past and current District Ministers, Officers and Members of Atwima Koforidua District for their prayers and support in diverse ways.
Deaconess Mercy Agyapong reiterated that because of what Christ has done for her, she has now assumed the role of an evangelist, testifying to childless couples that, Jesus Christ will grant their heart desires should they remain steadfast in Him.
