Unleashed To Live A Life Worthy Of My Calling: My Reflections On The Theme For 2025

The 2025 theme of The Church of Pentecost stresses the need for Christians to live a life worthy of their calling, having been unleashed into the world to transform their spheres. This thought-provoking theme is a timely response to the pervasive sin and debauchery in our world today.

The church’s Vision 2023 focused on winning the nations for Christ under the overarching vision of “Possessing the Nations.” This involved equipping ministers, officers, and members to transform every sphere of society with the values and principles of the Kingdom of God. Vision 2028 aims to “Unleash the whole church.”

Some thematic and topical areas for 2025 include:

  1. Living for eternal rewards.
  2. Living your faith in the public sphere.
  3. Serving God with our possessions.
  4. Unleashed to save the never-dying soul.
  5. The practice of waiting on God through prayer and fasting.
  6. Revitalising worship and fellowship in the local church.

I have discovered that everything in this world was designed and created to fulfill a specific and a defined intention. According to the Bible, God created humans for several purposes, including:

  • To replicate God’s image: God created humans in His image and likeness to share His love, grace, and goodness.
  • To adore and glorify God: Humans were created for God’s glory and to worship Him.
  • To enjoy companionship with God: Humans were created to enjoy fellowship with God.
  • To have free will: Humans were given free will to freely share in God’s love and joy.
  • To be caretakers of the world: Humans were created to care for the world and each other.
  • To have dominion over creation: Humans were given dominion, power, and control over the earth and all that is in it.

God created mankind out of love, for the purpose of sharing love. We were created to love God and each other. Additionally, God gave humans the responsibility of good works to experience His goodness and reflect His image in the way they care for the world and each other.

As Christians, we are mandated to live after Christ’s character. To reflect an image, one must stand in its nature. As followers of Christ, it is important to replicate His nature in our daily activities – in speech, thought, deeds, conduct, and character.

LIVING A WORTHY LIFE

Generally, one’s life can be worthy only in Christ, who transforms behaviour and lifestyle and gives it meaning. Living a worthy life means living a divinely and eternally purpose-driven life, with a focus on heaven. The Christian is spiritually inclined to the things of God, not carnally inclined.

“Living a life worthy of your calling” is an expression found in the Bible, meaning to live a life that validates godly character, moral valor, private integrity, and mature behavior. It also means expressing gratitude to God for salvation and redemption. The phrase appears in Ephesians 4:1, where the Apostle Paul urges Christians to live a life worthy of their calling. The Greek word translated “worthy” is “axios,” meaning having the same weight as something of similar value.

Living a life worthy of one’s calling means:

  • Living as God’s redeemed people, bought by the precious blood of Jesus.
  • Living up to the standard God set when He called you.
  • Walking in divine contentment, purity, humility, and discipline.

MY CALLING

Living a life worthy of your calling means the world sees Christ through you. It implies taking your everyday, ordinary life and living it in a way that praises and honours God.

Our calling begins with being in Christ. We are saved by grace through faith and brought into a community of faith, where we learn God’s purpose for our lives and are strengthened in faith to do the good works asked of us. Apostle Paul challenges us to lead a life worthy of God’s grace and our calling.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A WORTHY LIFE:

  • Humility: Recognising that we are not worthy and never will be; our lives will never balance the scale with God’s.
  • Gentleness: Being willing to be led by another, as Jesus was obedient to His Father’s will.
  • Patience: Enduring injuries inflicted by others because of the life we are living.
  • Love: Bearing with one another in love, the greatest gift we can give.
  • Unity: Being one in Christ and united with one another.

Finally, we must see our profession and work as a calling to demonstrate God’s love, holiness, and purity. We must manifest Christ in every aspect of our lives, using our professions to win many for Christ and make God famous.

“Unleashed To Live A Life Worthy Of Your Calling” — Theme For 2025 Unveiled

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has unveiled the 2025 theme for the Church: “Unleashed to Live a Life Worthy of Your Calling,” taken from Ephesians 4:1, 1 Thessalonians 4:7, and Galatians 1:24.

In explaining the theme, which was unveiled at the 2024 November Head’s Meeting underway at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Apostle Nyamekye emphasised that Christians are God’s special possession with a divine mandate to enact change in the world. He stated that the Church exists to reveal the glory of God to all generations.

Highlighting the continuity of themes aimed at achieving Vision 2028, Chairman Nyamekye noted that the unleashed people of God must lead lives that reflect their calling in the world. He reiterated, “Having been unleashed as a people of God, it is essential to live a life worthy of our calling to transform the world.”

Apostle Nyamekye discussed the urgent need for transformation in various spheres, asserting that individual lives must demonstrate that we are transformed agents of change. He stressed the importance of every Christian understanding their calling, which is not limited to pastoral roles but applies to all Christians.

“The calling we have received is to live a life of holiness amidst a perverse society, reflecting God’s saving grace,” he stated. He emphasised that when the Church meets God’s expectations, societies are transformed. When a church is faithful to its calling, it becomes a healing agency to society and can lead many to Christ,” he remarked.

He explained that the Greek word ‘Ekklesia’ refers to God’s assembly called for a purpose — to glorify His name. Furthermore, he noted that God is glorified when Christians live lives worthy of their divine calling.

Apostle Nyamekye encouraged the church community to avoid defining the Christian life solely by abstaining from vices; instead, they should demonstrate positive qualities such as love, peace, humility, and holiness.

“God’s call does not entail impurity but rather a life of holiness,” he asserted, adding that “the purpose of Christ was to rescue us from the hand of our enemies and to enable us to serve Him without fear in holiness and righteousness all our days” (Luke 1:74-75).

He declared that the Church is destined for holiness, stating, “That is who we are and our calling.” He urged members to be exceptional in everyday situations, emphasising that living a life worthy of our calling should show the world that we have truly known Christ.

“Living a life worthy of your calling means taking your ordinary life and living it generously, radically, expansively, creatively, courageously, and gloriously, so that God will be praised because of you,” he challenged.

Apostle Nyamekye advised against the dilemma of quitting secular jobs for full-time ministry, highlighting that our work and daily activities are part of our Kingdom ministry.

“Do not separate your everyday life from your faith. Your faith should shine through in the ordinary aspects of life for His glory,” he encouraged.

He reminded the congregation that “unleashed servants are not removed from their workplaces but are sent there. Kingdom bearers include market workers, woodworkers, bricklayers, plumbers, shopkeepers, lawyers, nurses, doctors, designers, parents, children, teachers, farmers, and individuals of all ages.”

Chairman Nyamekye shared that several topics have been thoughtfully chosen to align with the theme. These include Living for eternal rewards, Living your faith in the public sphere, Serving God with our possessions, Unleashed to save the never-dying soul, The practice of waiting upon God through fasting and prayer, and Revitalizing worship and fellowship in the local church.

He encouraged church leaders to strive to help the congregation appreciate the theme and live lives that will lead the world to praise God.

“May we declare Christ and make Jesus famous in the world again,” he concluded.
