President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has lauded the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Despite Group of Companies, Nana Dr. Baffour Osei Kwame “Despite”, together with the CEO of Special Group of Companies, Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong for the construction of an ultramodern facility for the Ghana Police Service.
Commissioning the newly constructed Tesano Divisional Police Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service, at a brief ceremony on Monday, 7th May, 2018, President Nana Akufo-Addo, noted that the security of Ghanaians is a top priority of his government and the responsibility rests on the shoulders of the Police force in the country.
Coincidentally, the project commenced on the 7th of January, 2017, the day Nana Addo was sworn in as President.
The facility has offices with private washrooms for the Divisional Commander, the Divisional Crime Officer, the DOVVSU Commander (Tesano), Station officers, an orderly room for the Divisional Officers, the DOVVSU General Office, a 10-seater conference room, a kitchen, a dining room, a total of 5 washrooms, an executive lobby, a general lobby, a conducive counter back area, and two modernized Cells with washrooms for women and juveniles.
President Akufo-Addo expressed his delight at the kind gesture by Dr. Osei Kwame stating that the new Police station will help to facilitate the activities of the Police personnel to resolving crimes in the country.
“It’s an excellent example of the contribution that a responsible citizen can make to the general welfare of the community; a gesture which is worthy of emulation by others…Despite, you deserve a big ‘Ayekoo’! The people of Tesano and its environs are grateful for this…Osei Kwame Despite, well done!” he stated.
The President recounted some government interventions aimed at reinforcing the Police Service, saying “government continues to mobilize whatever assistance it can to enable the Police provide the Ghanaian people the kind of service they deserve. This year, we’re undertaking the rehabilitation of Police stations throughout the country to standardize the infrastructure. Our aim is to strengthen the Police, fashioning it into an honest, disciplined, efficient and robust force whose emphasis will be on proactive and preventive policing rather than reacting.”
“…the most essential things of a nation are the peace and safety of its people, and its territorial integrity. It is when these are guaranteed the citizens can go about their normal lives in security and try to improve upon the quality of their circumstances. We all sleep feeling protected when the men and women of the Police Service work to keep our nation, our communities and our streets safe. The issue of law and order is particularly important till this time when indiscipline, lawlessness and outbreaks of mob justice are threatening the rule of law,” he added.
Earlier in an address read on his behalf by Kwami Sefa Kayi, host of Peace Fm’s flagship programme “Kokrokoo,” Dr Osei Kwame revealed that the “edifice was the brainchild of the former divisional Commander at Tesano, ACP Lydia Donkor, now Director for Legal and Prosecution for Greater Accra Region who brought a proposal for a “smaller structure for the DOVVSU Unit.”
But knowing his penchant for going the extra mile, Dr. Osei Kwame, “upon viewing the allocated land for the structure, decided to rather put up a massive edifice as we can see here to cater for both the Division and the DOVVSU unit as a whole.”
He recounted earlier philanthropic projects embarked on by the CEO of the Despite Group of Companies.
“Earlier this year, he donated three multimillion edifices to the nation. These buildings are his modest social responsibility to Ghana which he announced on his birthday, 2nd February…..a fully furnished and equipped Dr Osei Kwame Despite Children’s Block at the 37 Military Hospital….An oncology/ haematology unit with a six bed general ward fully equipped with beautiful designed walls to suit the taste of the children, a paediatric physiotherapy unit with a gymnasium or playroom and two private wards. “Mr. President, this is the first haematology, oncology and physiotherapy unit for children in the country.
“….A state of the art furnished police station with an office complex suitable for a Capital city and similar to what we see here was also inaugurated on 29th of March this year by the Inspector General of Police David Asante Apeatu who was represented by COP Kofi Boakye, Director General PIPS for the Wiamoase township. With the New Wiamoase Police station, we believe the Ghana Police Service can be upgraded it to a district headquarters or a divisional headquarters for the Agona Municipality,” Sefa Kayi disclosed.
