Apostle J.B.K. Tawiah, the Tamale Area Head of The Church of Pentecost and the Coordinator for the Northern Regional Coordinating Committee (NRCC), has urged children of ministers and officers to engage in self-reflection regarding their conduct and attitude in life, in the wake of the unleashing agenda of the church.
Apostle Tawiah gave this admonition during the Area’s maiden Ministers’ and Officers’ Children Conference organized on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the E.D. Aninkorah Temple in Kalpohin Tamale.
The theme of the conference was “You Are Part of the Unleashed Church,” with scriptural references from Deuteronomy 6:7 and Ephesians 6:1-4, and was tailored specifically for the wards of officers and ministers within the Tamale Zone of the Tamale Area of the church.
The rationale for the programme was to prepare participants to position themselves to play their expected role in the unleashed church and to shape their lives so that they avoid behaviours that affect the image of their parents and that of the church.
In his opening message, Apostle J.B.K. Tawiah drew insightful lessons from Eli’s household and his sons, Hophni and Phinehas, showing the repercussions of their misconduct on themselves, their families, and the Nation of Israel. Some of the vices recorded about those young men were that they were seen as worthless men (1 Samuel 2:12), did not know God (1 Samuel 2:12), they were greedy people who coveted the sacrifices made in the temple (1 Samuel 1:13-16), they committed immoral acts with the women who came to the temple (1 Samuel 2:22).
According to him, per the Bible narrative, their actions brought pain and death in the family and the entire Nation of Israel. He, therefore, urged church leaders not to stay unconcerned about evil acts engaged in by their children since that can have dire consequences on the family, the church, and society as a whole.
He further mentioned that, in the face of all those developments in Eli’s house, Samuel, who happens to be staying in the same house, stayed out of those evil acts, emphasizing that it is possible to stay pure and righteous in the midst of evil people. We only have to resolve not to contaminate our lives with the evil behaviors of our peers (1 Corinthians 15:33; Proverbs 1:10-11).
Apostle Tawiah encouraged parents to prioritize the spiritual upbringing of their children, emphasizing the importance of instilling reverence for God in their hearts, engaging them in household responsibilities, fostering active participation in church activities, and guiding them towards the path of service to God. As parents, the word of God places a responsibility of teaching their children the way they should go on them (Ephesians 6:1; Proverbs 22:6).
Furthermore, he implored the children of church leaders to demonstrate obedience towards their parents, actively involve themselves in church activities, stay out of evil, and recognize the significant role their families play in sustaining the church.
Concluding his message, Apostle J.B.K. Tawiah underscored the significance of integrating faith into every aspect of life, reminding both parents and children alike to anchor their actions on their devotion to God. He said prayer plays a key role in the upbringing of children.
The programme attracted 430 wards of ministers and officers of the church, who were evidently happy for such a wonderful opportunity to be taken through various topics to help them cope with modern trends in church life.
Other speakers were Mrs. Agartha Tawiah, the wife of the Area Head, and Overseer Abraham Ameyaw, Airport District Minister, who are both daughters and sons of ministers of The Church of Pentecost.
Also present were ministers and officers of the Church of Pentecost within Tamale and other Districts.
