The Chairman of the National Discipleship and Leadership Development Committee (NDLDC), Apostle Dr Samuel Kojo Gakpetor, has urged members of The Church of Pentecost to cultivate the habit of regularly studying the Scriptures, describing it as essential to advancing the church’s Vision 2028 and possessing the nations with sound biblical truths.

He made the call at the opening of a three-day refresher course for facilitators of the Pentecost Literacy Project (PLP), where he stressed the need to equip church members with the literacy skills required to deepen their understanding of Scripture and strengthen their Christian witness.

Apostle Dr Gakpetor explained that the expansion of the church’s frontiers made it imperative to equip its members to operate from a position of knowledge and sound doctrine. He disclosed that the church’s leadership was investing in efforts to ensure that members became literate in English or at least one Ghanaian language.

He noted that the lifestyle of the Puritans had become a significant reference point in advancing Vision 2028. He therefore encouraged members to emulate not only their commitment to purity and strong work ethics but also their disciplined approach to reading and studying the Bible.

“We must be identified as a people who examine the Scriptures. The Puritan reading habit must become associated with us,” he stated.

Addressing the 172 participants at the training, Apostle Dr Gakpetor urged them to take the refresher course seriously, reminding them that the church members whose offerings funded the programme were the ultimate beneficiaries of the literacy project.

He challenged the facilitators to identify and address the barriers hindering the implementation of the project in their respective jurisdictions, urging them to plan strategically and approach the task with commitment.

“Picture your jurisdiction. That is where you must start from. Break the barriers and act with passion. Identify the centres and plan the implementation ahead of time,” he advised.

Drawing lessons from Acts 17:10–12, Apostle Dr Gakpetor emphasised that believers must not only receive the Word of God eagerly but also examine and study it consistently to attain spiritual maturity.

“We can hasten and achieve this when we have a church population that is able to read,” he reiterated.

He further urged the participants to ensure that the church’s investment in the programme yielded the desired results when they returned to their respective areas.

“Do not disappoint God, the church, and your Area,” he admonished.

The three-day refresher course is being facilitated by 20 resource persons drawn from Literacy Evangelism International (LEI), the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILBT), and The Church of Pentecost.

The training is currently underway at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, near Kasoa in the Central Region.
