The Ntewusae District Minister of The Church of Pentecost in Kete-Krachi Area, Pastor Ernest Perbi-Asare, on Friday, November 30, 2018, launched his Akuapem Twi reading book with the titled “De Mente?”
The 70-page book was foreworded by Mr. Patrick Nana Wonkyi, Assistant Lecturer at the College of Languages Education, University of Education, Winneba, Ajumako Campus.
Speaking at the launch which took place at the Lakeside Central Assembly auditorium at Kete-Krachi in the Volta Region, Pastor Perbi-Asare indicated that when he was transferred to the Ntewusae District in 2015, the Lord laid it on his heart to write and publish a reading book in the Ghanaian Language to benefit the people of Krachi West District and other districts who are studying Akuapem Twi in their schools, since there were virtually no books in Ghanaian Language (Akuapem Twi) to be used in the basic schools.
According to him, the launch of the book “is an affirmation that, language is the most effective tool for preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage. It is by far man’s most important asset through which he can study and understand the values and concerns of the society.”
Pastor Perbi-Asare, a former Ghanaian Language (Akuapem Twi) tutor at the Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School at Asokore-Koforidua and Kibi Presbyterian College of Education, is currently one of the Akuapem Twi translators in the Church.
The author donated 100 copies of the books to the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Krachi West District. He also donated 70 copies to schools and other institutions in the area. The beneficiary institutions are the Pentecost Preparatory School at Chinderi, Zongo Macheri School also in the Chinderi District, Apostle Ntumy Public Library, Ntewusae D/A Primary and JHS and the KRASEC Basic School.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Krachi West Directorate of the GES, Nana Nteh Kwabena, in an address read on behalf of the District Director of Education, lauded the author for the good initiative.
“What you have done is highly commendable and we want to assure you and your wife that the books donated to the district would be put to good use to help promote Ghanaian Language studies in our district,” he said.
A representative of the Krachi West District Chief Executive, Mr. Prince Latif Oyekunle, on his part, commended Pastor Perbi-Asare for undertaking the project.
“You have really done well Pastor; generations will come to appreciate what you have done today and it will be a stepping stone for others to follow,” he emphasized.
The event was attended by Apostle Komi Edina Agbavitoh (Kete-Krachi Area Head of The Church of Pentecost), Apostle Obiri Yeboah (Rtd.), the immediate past National Head of the Church of Nigeria, and ministers and their wives in the Kete-Krachi Area.
