The Suame Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Michael Agyen Brefo, has called on Christians to cultivate the habit of consistent fasting and prayer as a means to transform lives, societies, and nations.
Explaining the essence of fasting and prayer, he noted that prayer strengthens an individual’s relationship with God, while fasting serves as a physical discipline that removes distractions. Therefore, both practices must be actively pursued.
Apostle Agyen Brefo said this in a sermon on Friday on the theme: “Transforming Society through Fasting and Prayer – Acts 13:2, Matthew 17:20-21” at the 2026 PENSA Ghana Conference, held at the KNUST Campus in Kumasi.
He emphasised the power behind faith, stating, “What energises your faith to work is fasting and prayer, and it is essential to consistently put them into practice.”
Highlighting the significance of these spiritual disciplines, Apostle Agyen Brefo reminded believers that society is rife with corruption and demonic influences that seek to destroy anything godly. One effective way to overcome such forces, he said, is through persistent fasting and prayer.
He disclosed that the release of God’s power depends on the readiness of His people to harness it, which is rooted in consistency and perseverance in prayer.
According to him, engaging in fasting and prayer empowers the spirit, weakens the flesh, heightens spiritual sensitivity, sharpens discernment, and increases spiritual authority, making breakthroughs inevitable.
The Suame Area head encouraged believers to adopt a positive attitude towards fasting and prayer by being fervent and exercising the divine power given to overcome the strongholds of the enemy against all that is godly.
He also advised Christians to be proactive in these disciplines, recalling Jesus’ caution to His followers: “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
Apostle Agyen Brefo concluded the session with intensive prayers, leaving many participants impacted and revived for greater works.
