The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, fellowshipped with the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) West Hills on Sunday, December 7, 2025. During the service, he delivered an inspiring sermon on the centrality of the gospel and the unmatched authority of the name of Jesus Christ.
Preaching from 1 Corinthians 15:3, he explained that the gospel is of “first importance” – the truth that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. “We must believe that Christ died for our sins and rose for our salvation. Whoever believes and confesses this truth shall be saved,” he said, stating that Jesus remains the reason believers gather and the foundation of their faith.
Apostle Dr Nyamekye then elaborated extensively on the authority vested in the name of Jesus, describing it as “the most famous name on earth.” Reading from Psalm 9:10, he noted that knowing the name of the Lord goes beyond merely singing or speaking it. “Those who truly know His name put their trust in Him,” he added. He further stressed that salvation is found only in the name of Jesus – the strong tower to which the righteous run for safety.
He reiterated that the name of Jesus saves, delivers, and protects from every attack. “Jesus is the secret place of the Most High,” he said, explaining that because believers know His name, they are redeemed.
Referring to Psalm 8:1, he described the name of Jesus as majestic, carrying royal authority and heavenly power. He explained the significance of names and how they embody the identity, character, and reputation of their bearers. Quoting 2 Samuel 20:1 and Proverbs 21:24, he noted that a name represents a person’s entire being. “Your name is your greatest treasure,” he stated, referencing Proverbs 3:3.
Apostle Dr Nyamekye encouraged believers to live in a manner that brings glory to God’s name, stressing the importance of love, faithfulness, wisdom, and self-control. “Not all truths must be spoken. Sometimes silence preserves your name,” he cautioned.
Highlighting Proverbs 22:1, he taught that a good name is more valuable than riches. He encouraged Christians to invest in building a worthy name through character, diligence, and discipline. He added that Jesus Himself gained His exalted name through obedience and sacrifice, referencing Philippians 2:5–11 and Hebrews 1:3–4.
Citing Colossians 2:3 and Acts 4, he concluded that the name of Jesus not only raises the dead but also imparts wisdom for victorious daily living, authenticated by the power of the Holy Spirit.
