The interactive and the user-friendly nature of social media make it very easy to post almost anything from thoughts to photos, to videos and to anything one can think of. It is, however, important to appreciate the fact that the implications that come along with these postings cannot be taken for granted. Posts on social media can be likened to a coin thrown into the sea, which cannot be retrieved. Any of these posts on the social media platforms must be noted as information not only for friends but for current and future employers as well; and more importantly, a testimony of our lives as salts of the earth.

A Christian leader once asked his youth members, “How do you think the Facebook wall of Jesus would look like if he had a Facebook account in His time?” It is important we also ask ourselves this very pertinent question: as examples of Christ in our generation, what should our Facebook walls look like?

Our calling to represent Christ on earth places on us a huge responsibility to be circumspect, even on social media. Remember, everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible, but not everything is constructive. 1 Corinthians 10:23 (NKJV)
