Exposition:

When we are saved, we are delivered from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. We are brought forth into Christ. We become like a branch grafted onto the main tree, which is Christ.

For us to be continually nourished to be fruitful in Christ, we will have to remain in Christ. We, being the branch, will have to be firmly attached to the vine (Jesus Christ). John 15:4-6 tells us that if we don’t remain in Him, we cannot bear any fruit and we will be thrown away. Colossians 2:6-7 also indicates that we must continue living in Christ so that we can be rooted and built up.

To remain in Christ, we must devote our lives to prayer and the study of God’s word. We must, by the help of the Holy Spirit, live the life that pleases God. These things strengthen the bond of the relationship we have with Jesus, helping us to remain in Him.
