WHAT IS SALVATION?

John 3:16-18; 1 Peter 2:9-10

Exposition:

When God created mankind, we lived in harmony with all creation in the Garden of Eden till sin set in. Mankind was left alone and tried all sort of means to get back to God but was not successful. This led to man creating other gods and living all kinds of life, making us slaves to sin and the world (Galatians 4:3).

God was still passionate about us and loved us. He did not want anyone to be lost. So in His own time, He gave us His Son, Jesus to save us from our sins (John 3:16). Jesus came to die on the cross so that you and I will be saved.

Salvation is the act of being delivered from sin and its consequences, and being brought into God’s light. This is exactly what Jesus did for us when He died on the cross. The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:9-10 that He called us out of darkness (sin) into His wonderful light (God’s glory). It also says we are now God’s people – because we are now free from sin, because we have received God’s mercy. By this, we have received eternal life – we can now live the Christ-like life, and we will spend eternity with Him in God’s kingdom. This is what Jesus did for us. We must be happy in this and live our lives for the one who has saved us.

Prayer Guide: Thank you Jesus for saving me. Help me to live for You all the days of my life, Amen.

Memory Verse For This Week: Romans 10:9 (NIV) – That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
