TURNING YOUR WEAKNESSES INTO STRENGTHS

Galatians 5:16

Exposition

One of the greatest enemies of a believer is the flesh. Many great men and women fell just because they tried to satisfy the demands of the flesh. The Apostle Paul reminds the Galatians that the flesh is always warring against the spirit (Gal. 5:17). Thus, the more a person desires to gratify the demands of the flesh, the more they sin against God.

The Apostle Paul used the epistle to advise the Galatians who were then being led astray by false teachers and had neglected the leadings of the Spirit. In the same book, he compared the fruit of the Spirit to the works of the flesh. He thus advised them to walk by the Spirit so that they would not gratify the desires of the flesh.

We discovered in the previous lessons that every individual belongs to at least one temperamental group. Each group has its good and bad sides. Whenever we desire to always please the Spirit, we shall be able to control our weakness. There is the need for us to have constant fellowship with the Holy Spirit, and always read and meditate on the word of God.

Prayer Guide: Father Lord, I desire to please you alone and not the desires of my flesh. I pledge to commit myself to reading your word and abiding by your precepts. I pledge to have a constant fellowship with your Spirit whom you have given to me to enable me to overcome all my weaknesses.

Memory Verse For This Week: Galatians 5:16 (ESV) – But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
