Exposition
The death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith. It is the greatest demonstration of the power of God ever. Without the death and resurrection of Christ, our belief in God’s saving grace through Jesus Christ is destroyed.
The entire faith of Christians rests on the death and the resurrection of Christ. The death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ is, therefore, the central truth of our faith. Without it, there is no such thing as the Christian Faith. Our faith in Christ Jesus is a response that we are partakers of His death and resurrection. Faith is the evidence of being united to Christ in His death.
In Romans 6:4-9, Apostle Paul stated that Christians were buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead, we too may live a new life. Christ died in our place and for our sins. He himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness.
Because you have been buried with Christ through His death and been raised to new life, you cannot continue to live in your old self. Faith sees sin as murderous. Therefore, becoming a Christian means death to sin. The Old self that loved sin died with Jesus. Your new life is now swayed by righteousness (Romans 6:13).
Our faith in Jesus Christ has helped us to receive the life which is in Christ and therefore made us partakers of His resurrection. If death couldn’t hold Christ captive, death has no power over us because of the life we have received from Christ. Even if we die, we shall be raised again.
