Exposition
What is your motive for actively participating in politics as a Christian? What drives you or motivates you into doing something is very important. As Christians, we must have clear and genuine motives for being part of the political process. Proverbs 16:2 says, “All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord”. Human beings can operate from a variety of motivations, often negative.

Pride, selfishness, amassing wealth, fame, anger, revenge, a sense of entitlement, or a desire for approval can all influence our actions. Any motivation that originates in our sinful flesh is not pleasing to God. We can keep our motives pure as Christians in politics by continually surrendering every part of our hearts to the control of the Holy Spirit.

Second, the only way we can operate from a pure motive as Christians in politics is when we walk in the Spirit. Third, when we allow God to control every part of us, then our desire is to please Him and not ourselves. Our flesh constantly clamours to exalt itself, and only when we walk in the Spirit will we not gratify those desires of our flesh. Dear reader, our motives as Christians in Politics should be showing forth the image and the glory of God.

Also, we must have the right motive to influence our people with the values and principles of the kingdom of God. Again, we must have the desire to be agents of transformation. More so, we must have the right motive for serving our people. Beloved in Christ, God is more interested in our motives than in our actions. Therefore, let the mind of Christ be in you as you seek to actively take part in the political process.
