EXPOSITION:

Anything worth having is worth pursuing! Many people engage in all sorts of activities to gain human recognition. Some go to the extent of depriving themselves of their legitimate comfort in order to get rewards that are man-made. In our reading today, we see that there is a reward earmarked for every person for what we choose to do with the time God has given to us. The truth is that the type of reward will be determined by the kind of results you produce. In Paul’s letter to the Corinthian church, he makes a distinction of the various work inputs and their possible outputs and how they shall be tested. The question is, what kind of work are you doing for God now, is it the one which will endure the test of fire and eventually yield lasting eternal rewards or the one which will not endure and yield no reward? In Revelation 22:12, Jesus says he is coming with his reward to give to everyone according to what he has done. By this, we can be certain that Jesus is concerned about what we are doing now as far as the expansion of his kingdom is concerned.

LIFE APPLICATION:

The most important pursuit of life is to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). There should not be any activity that you do that is devoid of the God factor, because it is in so doing that you will secure for yourself eternal rewards. I urge you to make God and his kingdom your priority in everything you do and you will secure for yourself an eternal reward.
