EXPOSITION:

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.” (Proverbs 22:1) To have a good name is to be known and recognized as one who is exemplary and has demonstrated a sense of goodwill, responsibility, and leadership in life. Such a person is always known for something worth mentioning and celebrating. Such people by their deeds leave indelible marks in the hearts and minds of people. These marks eventually become lasting memories and others begin to follow and learn, thus becoming a legacy. In our reading today, Dorcas left a good legacy in Joppa by her good works and her support for the poor, needy, widows among others. When she was called to glory, the people could not hold their peace for the loss of such a priceless gift. The good deeds Dorcas did and the many lives she impacted whilst alive was so weighty that the Apostle Peter had to go and pray for her to come back to life.

LIFE APPLICATION:

Your actions today will speak for you tomorrow. Be mindful of how you treat people and don’t take any opportunity presented to you lightly since it is by that you will be remembered. Dorcas was well remembered for the good legacy she had left behind, and she had to be brought back to life to continue her good works. I urge you to pursue a worthy cause with the time God has given to you on this earth and leave a good legacy for others to follow.
