The gospel message of Christ Jesus is a complete salvation package. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who came to die for our sins also came to heal and deliver us from all infirmities. The healing story of the demon possessed man of Gerasenes in Mark 5:1-20 is very spectacular and it shows Jesus’ power and authority over demons and sicknesses.

The life of the demon-possessed man of Gerasenes was miserable, helpless and dangerous. He was miserable and helpless because he was possessed by a “legion of demons”. Legion was a Roman military term that consisted of six thousand soldiers. One man was possessed by over six thousand demons. He was dangerous because, as a human being he was staying in the tombs and hills, crying and cutting himself with stones and no one could bind him, chain him or subdue him. But when this man met the healing Jesus, the legion of demons was cast out of him. Verse 15 states that, ‘when they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid”. Jesus Christ healed and delivered the demon-possessed man and made him an evangelist.

The Pharisees and the teachers of the law grumbled and complained about Christ for eating and drinking with tax collectors and “sinners”. Jesus told them it is not the healthy who need a doctor but the sick. He has not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

According to Jesus, “sinners” – (people who have not accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour) are not healthy and need a doctor. Jesus Christ is the only doctor who can heal you of your drug addiction, masturbation, homosexuality, prostitution, sexual immorality etc. Repent, confess your sins now and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour and you shall be healed.
