Exposition:

It appears that people who frequently indulge in gambling and lottery do so because they place their trust in the god of fortune “the hope to get lucky”. But scripture admonishes that, things like fortune, fate, luck, and destiny are as foreign gods in whom the nations foolishly place their hope.

In Isaiah 65, the prophet talked of the dispensation of the gentiles, where the gentiles will accept the gospel and the rejection of the people of Israel because of their obstinacy and unbelief. From verses 8-10, we see God’s salvation plan is revealed to the remnant of the Jews by bringing them into the church.

In Verse 11 we see God’s judgment on those who reject the living God, the one who gives the power to make wealth and follow the god of fortune and destiny. The prophet clearly stated that not only does God hate the attitude and practice of serving the god of fortune, but He is also willing to punish people who trust in such gods.

The text reads “But as for you who forsake the Lord and forget my holy mountains, who spread a table for fortune and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny, I will destine you for the sword and all of you will fall in the slaughter. For I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me” (Isaiah 65:11-12) NIV.

Those who reject the God who gives us the power to make wealth are the ones who trust in the god of fortune, fate, and luck. Since there is a punishment for those who choose to serve the gods of fortune, let us turn away from lottery and anything that hinges on luck, fate, and fortune and trust in the living God. It is the Lord who holds our future and destiny. Let us trust in him, for His plan is to give us hope and an expected end.
