Exposition

No matter how many rules or standards you adopt, they can’t guarantee your spirituality. As a believer, your standard of spirituality is measured by the fruit you bear. The presence of the Holy Spirit in you is evidenced by the fruit you produce, just as a tree’s identity is seen by its fruit. In science, we learn that a fruit is a developed or mature seed. This means that there must be a certain seed of the Spirit that must be planted in you to yield its fruit. Moreover, a fruit is plucked from its vine, implying that you ought to be attached to a certain Vine to mature as a fruit. The fruit a believer portrays in his actions is due to the presence of the Holy Spirit in a yielded heart through the transformations of the mind.

Apostle Paul, in Galatians 5:22-23, describes the kind of fruit believers are to produce: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The mature fruit, as discussed earlier, could either be of the Spirit or the Flesh. Do you have the Spirit of God dwelling within you? Just as an apple tree cannot produce bananas, so the fleshy-led (carnal) being cannot manifest the fruit of the Spirit and vice versa. As a Christian, which vine are you attached to and which seed has been planted in you? We have an obligation but it is not to the sinful nature, not to the desires or the works of the flesh but the glory of the Lord our God
