Exposition
Staff members of all banks are trained to detect a counterfeit note not by concentrating on the counterfeit note but rather by becoming very familiar with the real one. It is not enough to talk about the devastating effects of secular music on the Christian; it is expedient to compose effective Christian music to combat the former. In the reading, Hannah composed a beautiful song. She brought out clearly the goodness of God towards the humble, His ability to bring hope to hopeless situations and how no one could compare with God. She continued to show how life and death, riches and poverty, judgment and mercy are in God’s custody.
An effective music must, therefore, contain good doctrine, authentic word of God and an inspiration to do good works: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them”. (Eph. 2:10 NKJV) In fact, any song that does not inspire good works should be avoided. You become what you constantly hear!
The content of an effective Christian music is as follows:
- To proclaim the saving virtues of God and His Christ
- To be couched in the language of the Bible
- To call people to repentance and faith in Jesus
- To encourage Christians to serve Christ and endure the challenges of living for Christ
- To appreciate and exalt God.
Furthermore, effective music should be inspired by the Holy Spirit and there must be a balance between rhythm, melody and harmony. When Hannah received Samuel through prayers she sang: “There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God”. (1 Samuel 2:2 KJV) This is an inspiration from the Holy Spirit!
