Exposition

In Paul’s epistle to the Corinthians, he emphasised that although one is allowed to do anything, not everything is good for them. We are made to understand by worldly knowledge that some amount of alcohol is good for the body but the bible admonishes us to present our bodies as a living and holy sacrifice acceptable by God as a true way of worship to Him. He expects a Christian youth to be filled with the Holy Spirit and not be drunk with wine because it will ruin their life. The word of God is true because, by human knowledge, the harmful effects of alcohol on the human body, the family and society supersede any benefit.

Alcohol misuse does not only affect the individual but destroys relationships and society, and also causes violence, crime, accidents and drink-driving. Long-term use of alcohol can be detrimental to one’s health. The brain is affected by impaired judgment and concentration. Coordination is affected, causing you to be unstable when walking. Some other well-known effects of alcohol include memory loss, major mouth diseases, heart diseases, stomach diseases, liver diseases, pancreas infections, kidney problems, reproductive system diseases, hallucinations, skin diseases, mal-absorption, hypertension, diabetes Mellitus and birth defects (alcohol intake in pregnancy). Alcohol dependence which arises with the intake of alcohol (being drinking or intake of any amount over a long period) is a long-term complication which may be very difficult to manage unless God intervenes during the rehabilitation process.
