EXPOSITION

Having the attire of a Roman soldier and a battle in imagery, a belt as a fastener holds all the pieces of the Soldier’s armour intact and the soldier has no fear of exposure of inner garments or any body part. Likewise, a Christian who takes on the belt of truth would be fit.

The truth can be expounded in two ways; First, it refers to the truths of the scripture as opposed to the lies of Satan (John 8:44).  Jesus Christ said “I am the way, the truth and the life…” John 14:6. The word of God is truth and Jesus is the word of God (John 1:1).

The great truths of the Bible; the love of God, salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, the Second Coming, the communion with the Holy Spirit, the grace and power to live for Jesus. These truths set us free from Satan’s lies. The Devil would have us believed that we are sinful, lost and without hope. The truth is God’s love and salvation has set us free from sin and death (John 8:36). Fastening ourselves with the Word of Truth would keep us safe.

The second way truth serves as a belt, holding together pieces of the armour of God, is our personal commitment to the truth, living a life that is upright, transparent and without deceit.

LIFE APPLICATION

As a Christian youth, integrity and honesty should be our hallmarks. People should know that they can depend on you to be a person of truth and principle just as Christ our model is.
